I don't mind listening to Z103.5 sometimes (or other top 40 station for that matter) it has to some degree "variety"...

And if I happen to listen to a song that's overplayed...I just switch it to another station...or switch it to CD...

When I have enough money...I should get one of those transmitters...oh well

thats exactly it IMO.

Why not just play them when they actually are new?

Stations such as 246, energy 105 and some college radio shows definately fill the void when it comes to this issue thats for sure. Problem is that most people listen during the day and get their direction from the more commercial stations. And if they are mis-informing people its not a good thing.

I think Club246's post sort of addresses this question... a station like Z103 will start to play the dance track only after it has been "test driven" in the club scene and the response from the gino/gina population is favourable. I've noticed that this is often the case unless the producer is already well known among listeners, ie. Tiesto.

Where did u guys get the idea that Z103 is geared to be some experimental station? IT'S A TOP40 STATION THAT ALSO PLAYS EDM. They advertise themselves as the 'hit channel' for fuck's sake. And you're all surprised when they play uhhhh.. hits?

Get a grip on reality - it's a radio station, it's there to make money, and they do that by appealing to the lowest common denominator, not by putting Sasha sets on air.

Ah, the ultimate cheese. It's so damn catchy though.
(And I have it on vinyl...)

It's good that more ppl are getting edm exposure. But, z103.5 is so far behind the times, so that while a lot of us have moved on, they are just getting into the trance scene... Some of them will stay, some of them will move on.

Net result is that EDM gets more fans. That's a good thing, right?

Z103.5 has to make money somehow and they decided that playing 'old' tunes as new gets them money. Yeah. Profit. Goooo profit. (Isn't that some sort of Ferengi god?)

Damn. Now I have a hankering to play some cheese trance.

It would help if a station decide to air an 'underground' show. Kinda like EM on Radio 1 and they have some fantastic shows from 2-7am on weekends.

Start slow. Build a fanbase. Maybe one of these shows will get to be as popular as EM is.

i just wish commercial radio in north america was setting the trends instead of following them. This is why i tend to listen to foreign broadcast streams, the 2 overnight toronto stations, or my own cds as opposed to anything else. Overseas in all genres they have much more variety and the general listening population is much more musically educated because of it.
