u are not 100% correct about rent

lets say a teacher makes about 3000 a month, after taxes is left with about 2400 or so.

if u choose to live in Toronto yes u will pay 1400 for rent (2 bedroom)...
however noones forces u to live in toronto...u can move to a smaller town where rent will be much less, about 800 for same size..

this is not as good of a ratio as u speak of argentina, but it is much lower.

Lot of the big expenses you speak of can be eliminated by moving to a smaller town..

no parking costs
50% reduction in rent cost

right there ur already saving urself 800-1000 a month..

i forget to mention that the 2000 pesos was AFTER TAX and living in downtown buenos aires.

Smaller towns there were even cheaper. But who wants to live in a small town? I dont mind big city expense as long as that city can offer me the lifestyle i choose. Lately, toronto cant offer a big city experience, just big city expense.

1 more thing... i never buy axe or red bull in canada. We pay almost double for both of what anyone else pays anywhere else. I buy a lot of it in the states and import it.

we think we have high standards here but in reality a lot of things are very low standard. Yes we have bigger houses and bigger cars but do we really live comfortably?

Yes, a lot of toiletries are cheaper in the US. Target & Walmart are your friends for that.

As for Red Bull- cans are sold at convenience stores for $1.99 ea. Isnt that about the same? Only plus in the US is being able to buy a case of it at Costco ($37). < Only downside to that was Graham and other friends coming by and drinking it, only leaving me 5 cans from the case.

Rachel- Costco has a cheap book section. If you dont have a membership there, maybe I can take you. Books are quite cheap there, tho the selection is small in comparison to a major book store.

$2US a can. I believe here after tax its $3.44 cdn

if the US pays 6% sales tax then its 2.12 plus exchange of about 20 cents makes it 2.32.

Compare that to the 3.44 we pay here. Ridiculous!

Axe is 3.69 US in the US and here i would pay 6.99 plus tax at its cheapest

FYI wholesale red bull case price here is $48 plus tax. And thats only if you are a supplier.

also in many countries, laundry service (pick up, wash, dry delivery) is a common service for MIDDLE CLASS people. Only the very poor would be forced to do their own laundry.

WHAT? Where'd you get THAT from?

experience. Based on where ive lived and where ive travelled. Try finding a do it yourself laundry mat overseas. It doesnt exist. Very Poor people wash clothes by hand. Middle and upper class use laundry service.

This was the case in South America, Thailand, and Europe.

I went to the non touristy parts (and lived in) the places mentioned above and there were laundry service places everywhere.

another rip off i thought of. I always go to buffalo to fly anywhere because its usually 1/3-2/3 cheaper than the same flight from toronto would be.

LMAO. I know exactly what teachers make. I've seen the paycheques... They keep about 50% (just like the rest of us) after all taxes , union dues and pensions are removed.

funny how this thread went from attempting to talk about the high cost of moving/living here and about basic necessities to complaining about the price of fucking Red Bull, airline flights and the latest novel.

LOL
