drive and ambition stem from the want to satisfy ones needs. this means looking to material things as motovators. so yea, people in LA drive big cars and have nice clothes and all the bling bling because they worked for it and it makes them happy. this should not be looked down upon because it shows that the people here stirve to succeed.

its all about perception. it no longer bothers me seeing so much materialism because i see it as a motovator to do better for myself.

people always think the grass is greener on the other side.

yea i admit a decent amount of the so cal populace are materialistic and all of that- but hey what can you do. its always been like this, i figure if you see the worst of the worst you're able to deal with the worst. and finding the down to earth people who go against the tide is always worth it living down here.

I have met many open minded, free thinking, great, intelligent, caring people in the rave/EDM scene in SoCal. You just need to know how to look.

Personally I am staying in SoCal cause of the weather and the great music.

I live in South Central so I think thats why i have avoided the materialistic people.

You willingly live in south central?!

As far as the LA Club Scene, you have to just go for yourself and have a blast with your people. If you're going out to a trance club in LA to meet friends, i think you will be highly disapointed. Most people i meet there i'd not want to run into on the street. EVER. I set high standards for those around me and beleive me, the so cal scene isnt the pick of the litter when it comes to posotive top notch people. That being said, you get a awesome trance DJ and a room full of trance fans, and its on. There are great times to be had here, just much more few and far between. Some of the greatest moments in my life were from avalon.

That being said, i hate spundae's (its too lit up, system sucks and everyone acts too friendly), and avalon plays crap house non-stop now. Once the act's switch between the 2 venues and Avalon is up to snuff as far as DJ's spinning, i will go back there. Till then its just bumping Matt Darey and classic AVB cds in the car to get my fill.

I'm pretty friendly to people who approach me.

BUT...

You have to understand that when you are NEW and don't know anyone "in the scene".. how can we trust you much? Sure we'll say hello, but I don't know if your intentions are trying to hit on me or my friends.. or trying to score stuff or whatever some people's crazy reason are.

If someone comes up to me and they don't know ANYONE that I know.. I feel a little standoffish. I'll say hi but won't be super buddy buddy to them.

Because LA is a party town that invites a lot of outta towners.. you don't know who is for real, and who just wants to have a few good kicks while they are on vacation.

That's why it's nice to have TA, where you can meet people and get to know them, especially if you plan on visiting somewhere else.

It's sad and all but there are a lot of sick fawks out in this world, and I rather be a "stuck up clique-ish" person, then be friendly and vulnerable to bullshiet I don't need just to make the "vibe" much better.

I think my observations are confirmed by the simple fact that, aside from Chris Lawrence, I cant think of ONE Southern Californian artist/DJ who has a chance of breaking into the top 20 DJ ranks. Why? B/c most of the natve-born Djs follow the same mentality that I mentioned in the beginning....its all show and now actual substance,

Honestly aside from Chris Lawrence there hasnt been any real bright mark from this place.

The schtick I've always had with LA is that the crowds (the vibe) there are just whack for the most part.

SF crowds are much better, IMO! And on the right night (like Sunday night parties), can't think of a place with better vibes. That even seems to carry over in DJ sets because many times I've done back-to-backs between LA and SF and in 99% of those cases, the SF night always went way better, vibe-wise and musically.

There may not be the # of clubs here with insane lightinging and what not (Ten15's is easily the best, Ruby's lighting is there and works but not nearly as crazy and Mezzanine's lighting...well, it's perfect the the place but pretty mellow overall), but the vibe the crowd brings can make up for it. I have yet to encounter that in LA!

Most of the places here do have pretty good sound systems, too.

Dave
