Everyone keeps forgetting there isn't just uplifting trance. What about hard trance? what about vocal trance, but with a deeper, darker feel. The only thing that makes a track uplifting is the scale you're working in. Some scales give an uplifting feel when progressed well (A minor, A# minor, G# minor, F minor, etc) and others give a deep, dark feel (D# minor, E minor, B minor, etc). Technically speaking, I think most trance is quite easy to produce, but the only thing that makes it difficult is the musical aspect behind it. Creating that one melody that differentiates your track from someone else. The arrangement can be exactly like an Armin track or have the same arrangement as all the other artists out there, but imho that's easy work. Since you can essentially copy someone else's style and just use different sounds (even presets like everyone else is doing out there), now your selling tracks out there like everyone else. Trance isn't dying so quit talking about that. You know it isn't, you're just upset that house/electro is taking over and trance isn't like it used to be in your opinion. I don't like house/electro myself, but trance will make a comeback soon or later ...we just have to wait and be patient and keep producing what makes us happy.

all this talk about one genre is harder to produce than another is nonsense. all genres are hard to produce, if their easy your not putting enough work into it. i personally feel trance is the most challenging as it there has to be things happening constantly. whereas with it, imo, contantly repeats itself and doesnt have the fullfilling flow of uplifting trance. but that is my opinion alot of people like house and probably feel im talking shit.

at the end of the day trance will outlive all of us just like classical outlived beethoven.

Well said!

One of the reasons i fel in love with trance, was the powerful and melodic essence mixed with the high tempo bpm that made me feel shivers, and thats what i am to trying to mirror in my productions, cus for me that is TRANCE, not. electro or whatever all the subgenres are.

As i metioned before, is that we are discussing the wrong thing here. Most of us future producers here do this cus we love it, not becuse we make money of it, and i think that is good, why? Well if we continue to do it, it will never die! If the labels would have had all us under contract, then probobly it would have.

So while the big labels are focused on making money on trying to sign the next big hit with "that" unique sound and just going with the flow, new labels are popping up, screaming for our material. So in the long end, the "big" lables will fall back again, when they realise what good tracks they have just let passed trough. So if any of us will make it to the top doing our thing, why change it?

But lets face it, there isnt any big money for us trance producers out there. The big money goes to the labels and the big Dj´s that gets the credit, shure you will get some, you "15 minutes of fame", but not that you will be able to make a living on it.. right? You need to be a really good dj as well, and have the economy to dedicate your self completely to the music. I whish i could, and maybe one day when i win the lottery, i could do it . Im just happy if i get a fan group of ten.

Regaring all you who talk about supersaws are outdated, the new thing is electro and bla bla bla... Are you a "trancaddict" or a "trendaddict". I mean, if you just liten to a really good trance tune with a massive supersaw today, will you say that its outdated becuse of that? or just becuse you feel that you want impress your "trendy" friends, and say 'listen to this new sound'? Does that mean you are dedicated to trance as a "tranceaddict" or are you just here to complain on the producers that makes this type of music and doesnt feel your needs to hear a new sound? Maybe you are a "soundaddict"! If so you are at the wrong place my friend, and the same goes to you who says electro is what i like, and house..etc etc! This may piss off some in here, but i dont care as much as i would have if Bin ladin was killed.

My point? We are in a forum that is called Tranceaddict.com, and the reason i became a member here was becuse i love trance music and i wanted to share it with the rest of the world, and made me wanna start producing my self. So if you love house, fine, but what are you doing here? If you love electro, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!?

The majority here are producing pure melodic/prog TRANCE, so why are you here telling the producers that thaur tracks are "outdated" just becuse we dont follow the trend. And that comes to my next point. If you dont know how to rate a track and be objective, dont do it! Cus it is always easy to say that it isnt good when you dont like it becuse of what it is or cus it has a sertain sound, cus remeber, it takes 10 good comments to correct one bad, so be nice to the producers that spends many hours on making a track, and struggle to make atleast one digital release. Dont make him doubt on him self just becuse you are a house junkie!

Cheers
C

Does anyone here know how to use the handy "search" function? There are plenty of threads with this same, obnoxious topic.

Trance is dead... big deal... there's nothing new under the sun: idiots can make money; fags can pose as definitive artists; media will cater to stupid people; stupid people will watch M-TV instead of discover music for themselves.

"The person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know that." - Agent K

And oh yeah... you can't say "crap" without saying "rap".

I use to be a resident dj at ministry of sound. I would get into heated arguments about house vs trance. Real house fans are a pain in the ass and they are stuck up and absolutely hate trance. After djing for a long time you get to see the ugly side behind it. On the forums its all good, people are not THAT personal about it, but on the dance floor when you it is a house crowd and you drop a sweet trance tune, they act like you killed someone from their family or something, fucking pricks. This made me stick to trance even more and I willl always love it. Fuck house

I just woke up from recovery of a double shift party weekend, both nights were quite trancy and I danced my ass off. I'm so friggin sore amd my ears are ringing quite nastily. I don't think we have anything to worry about with all this music is dying stuff. The parties I just got back from weren't full on epic 1999 love, but more a hybirdized thing. On friday there was kinda hard techy trance, and saturday I saw DJ micro, who did this whole trance/prog/electro thing that worked nicely.

DJ micro plyed at the local pop club, when the buildup from 4 strings - into the night came on all the kids from the pop room flooded in and started screaming, people still love trance im sure of it. The climax wasn't an an epic one though, after the snare roll the song cut into an electro buzzy thing, and it was great fun. I think this is what we are dealing with now, trance made a mark on this music that is never going to dissapear, even if the genre is not selling so well, there are still elements of the music we love present in today's music, and people are still going crazy for it.

I'm sure prog fans would have classified that night as prog, electro fans might call it 'electro', and I of course thought it was trancetastic. It doesn't matter though, it was fucking awesome, my fav set of 2006(that I have personally attended) so far.

We should try not to worry about this so much, trance isnt going anywhere, its just getting chopped up and interleaved with other stuff, which has been the circle of life for this type of music since the beggining. I really do want to hear a new iconic epic trancer tune that gives one of those hair raising moments though, I'm sure somebody will pull it off eventually but there is still great fun out there in the mean time.

You could say everything in life is dying really.. the less people that are keeping a legacy alive, the less of a life it has. I draw ansi art on the side of writing trance, which supposedly 'died' when the internet took over bbs's. Trance is not dying, nor will it ever be dead, as long as people support it.

And I'm not saying that out of disrespect to anyone, I think producing is hard in general, but trance evolved from techno which was always made on computers, and house evolved from disco which wasn't. One of the more difficult aspects of producing is making it sound not-so-computerized, and that's more of a necessity in house.

Actually, trance evolved from house. Techno evolved from garage. In the beginning house tracks were nothing more than drum machine programs, because thats all there was. Then, with more technology, producers started making more progressive house tracks which came to be known as progressive house. Then these tracks took some emphasis away from the beat and put it on the melodic aspects. This became known as trance. So really, prog trance is just moving back around the circle toward house. Later, house will come back around to trance.

Also, electro is not new. Electro was big in the early nineties. No one now is the first to discover it. Again, its a cycle.
