Of course not but is a great benefit for a DJ to know what harmonic mixing is and be able to make use of it.

Your right!!! if you abide by the whole +1-1 in key mixes.. the type of mixes where it sounds seamless and hard to tell there was a transition.

Theres tons of ways to mix in key, ie: key lifts (energy lifts), +4-3+7+2 etc, just have to be creative...

Look here i said the same exact thing as you did in the post im quoting.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

A slightly off beat mix is WAY better on the ears than a long drawn out sour fuck mix, would you like an example?

Your right.. one should have the basics down (all you mentioned in your post) or else all is gonna sound shit.

You make keying sound so difficult, its as easy as knowing the bpm and writing it down on your tracks.. once you know your tracks, you know your keys, its not rocket science.

I mix in key by ear. No its not rocket science. But it isnt the be-all end-all of mixing music.

Hmmmmm.. so you think you can pick up what key a song is in by ear? please teach me this, while your at it teach markus shultz, carl cox and all the others who write their keys on their cd's..

Sure we can all cue up tracks to see if they "sound" harmonically compatable in the headphones, but its imposible to know unless we know exactly what key the track is in.

Well thats fan-fucking-tastic, but I have no problem using my memory and ears. Do I need to make a list of all the DJs who use this method?
