sorry but imo there is a difference between hiphop/top 40 clubs and edm clubs(nights).

Here's a shock, the club district has never been, and never will be, an EDM centralized area.

It's been host to the bars, pubs, and nightclubs that cater to the drunkie.

Can we even name two EDM venues side by side these days??

People try and associate the District with EDM and say, "gee, it's not like the old days" because that's what people on TRIBE and TOTA listen to.

Guess what, those old days existed in warehouses and parking garages.. there has always been knife and gun violence in the district, EDM simply has never been @ the centre of that scene save for a brief spike in popularity the past 8-10 yrs.

I can't ever think of a part of the EDM era that had more than 5-8 relatively successful clubs/nights @ a time. Compare that number to the amount of top-40 and R&B nights/clubs that are successful.

We are the minority in this city.

back in the day it was 80% euro/commercial house with the 20 min hip hop rnb sets a la puff daddy and mace. in fact the first ever clubs in the district were 23 hop and still life which were legendary house nights. i dont remember shootings happening often downtown like they do now. In fact when it happened at G spot which was one of the first primarily hip hop nights on richmond back in 1999 people were really shocked.

What's really sad is that these people will probably NOT go to jail for a very long time...

Re: More violence in clubland

there is to much violence going on in this city in general. Not one week passes where there is no violence, murders, stabbings, ect.

Fortunatly, we all go out fairly late and we stay out later then the "last call for alcohol" crowd does, so the chances of something really bad happening to us are seldom, but it still could happen and that would be terrible.

I used to get sooooooooooo nervous going downtown to the club"land" district. So nervous that I refused to go sometimes, if I had to go on my own.

Anyways, as Nat said we knew something terrible happened, with the Forensic Units, Police on their Horses, yellow Caution tape and Police EvErYWhEre~!!!

Anyways, anyone that does go to any clubs, please be careful and if you are ever unsure about the security of the club, you can tell if you are not entirely checked while in line it should make you think what could be getting into the clubs (i.e.: guns, knives, etcetera…) I refuse to go out for a while and if I do, it will be on the outskirts of club district, meaning anywhere west of Spadina, Queen Street or North, even Film District is a must not go too!

Partying is fun only if the partiers allow fun into their lives and it seems that violence is greater the fun these days! It’s sad, but true…

Everyone be safe, this isn’t about Plur either, its about stopping violence!
