The other trend is to re-use barrels, even after the flavors have been drawn out after a few vintages, but add oak chips to the wine. A few years ago when I was taking a wines class in college, they quoted the price of French oak barrels as $600 apiece (American oak is half price). The better places will use them for a few years, then sell them to cheaper producers.

California and Austrailia have really started moving towards steel, though, and a lot of the reason is because many of the grape types don't need oak.

'seasoned' oak

Thanks sister, it's definately what I'm leaning towards!

@ Ocean Drive: I really wanna try a Vouvray. My personal fave is probably any Alsatian Gewurztraminer. How do the two compare?

Allied, picking up 'We think as instruments' Very post-rockish, which i never tire of : D

Rasta

So a while ago I listed a few wines that I enjoy, I'll recap on those.

Wine I enjoy:
1) Louis Jadot, Pinot Noir (2001)
2) La Crema, Pinot Noir (2003)
3) Coto de Imaz, Rioja (1998 Reserva &1995 Gran Reserva)
4) Montecillo, Rioja (1996 Reserva)
5) McWilliams, Merlot (2002)
6) Estola, Rioja (1994 Gran Reserva)
7) Marquez de Caceres, Rioja (1998 Reserva & 1995 Gran Reserva)
8) El Coto, Rioja (2001)
9) Francis Coppola, Pinot Noir
10)Coto de Imaz, Rioja (by far my favorite. I had 6 bottles shipped from Spain to start my collection on this one!)
11) Red Truck, merlot. (cheap table wine, but it does the trick and it tastes great!)

and there's so many more, but I recently took out the trash, along with 30 or so empty bottles of wine hehe

Good Cheap wine to buy if you're low on cash:
1) Bella Sera, Merlot (2000) ($8)
2) Louis Jadot, table wine ($9)

Wine to stay defuk away from:
Any kind of YellowTail. I've tried them all except for their line of Reserva's. Sure, the Wine Report rated the Shiraz, Reserva a whopping 93 points. And all that is saying is that it's tasty and is a good wine for the price, but regardless- most of YellowTail taste like utter trash. It's the most imported wine in the United States, and their advertising strategy is flawless. You can't go anywhere without seeing a shrine of YellowTail bottles in your local liquor store. But let me just say, it's the Coca-Cola of wine! The Nike of wine! It's your run-of-the-mill, "oh i think they'll like it", let's put a cork in it, ship it out, and to hell with quality- kind of wine. hehe

In other news:

I'm also purchasing a new wine rack. It's going to look like the picture below except I think I'm going to go with the Mahogany finish as opposed to the Cherry finish viewed below.

The rack will hold 36 bottles and will be stored in my room as a decorative piece. Man, i rule so much haha.

ok and that's about it folks!

ps: wine party, anyone?

Its responses like these that remind me why I never discuss wines with anyone. People can't seem to remember that our choices/favorites are our own opinions.
