I disagree with this statement. Many people are not into trance at all, and universally it isn't the foundation of EDM. Although names like Tiesto and PVD are very popular and they will always get packed venues, it's not too much of a stretch to say that house or certain types of techno could sustain longer to a "non-EDM" educated crowd. For example, I've heard many people (both who like EDM and don't like EDM) complain that trance sometimes has breakdowns that are too long...and sometimes that might be a turnoff *although a good breakdown is always a euphoric experience*...personally, I can't stand most trance because every song seems to have two minutes of nothing but a rolling synth pad blaring.

It's really hard to explain, and I understand it has a lot to do with taste. But, someone like Danny Howells or James Zabiela can certainly be more appealing than many trance dj's...a 10 hour set from Howells will be awesome because he knows how to keep the crowd moving and he will always progress in style: anything from deep house to funky breaks to banging dirty techno. Honestly, unless you're a die hard trance fan, a 10 hour set from almost any trance dj will begin to get tiring or boring. Lol, I used to spin trance when I started dj'ing and unless I had a loyal trance crowd, it sucked. But now that I have evolved into an avid supporter and dj of techno and house, I've been able to attract a much broader crowd, and many people who aren't into EDM have generously complimented the tracks I spun.

Yeah, when you're trying to pump a lot of noise, in a largish CLOSED space, acoustics plays a big part.

Unfortunately, it's one of the most expensive part of setting up and designing a club, as well as the sound insulation.

Yeah. Go Figure.

Actually, there is a disturbing trend of over-production going on in a lot of trance music lately. The compression rate between highs and lows gets squeezed so much to make the tracks sound big and bold, the tracks don't leave much breathing space between the frequencies. As a result, when played on a sound-system that amplifies this, you are left with a 'wall of sound' that drowns out harmonic dynamics.

Yeah, and it's more of a bitch to manipulate the track on the EQ knobs on the mixer.

I noticed this as well. Unfortunately a lot of tracks do not have a memorable hook because of that.

When I play trance I need to 'feel it'........

Since when are kick and bass the essence of trance?
It's all about melody/harmony.

it's about a good balance of both

it's true that well produced tunes are generally forgettable if the hook isn't there, but at the same time a tune can have an awesome melody but just won't get the airtime if it has a piss weak kick/bass

So those of us who joined this forum years ago and don't really listen to trance anymore should just leave because we're 'ignorant fucks'? I see.

The never-ending beat is one of the key ingrediants to trance's hypnotic and kinetic feeling. I think good bass is very important, because the body responds to the beat almost unconsciously. Your heart beat will start to mimick a strong rhythm, for example.
