Because we'll just end up comparing apples to oranges and get down to a personal taste argument which can end up being as broad or narrowminded as the people contributing to such a debate.
Above & Beyond, those guys still make good music and have done since about 2000 with very little of it I personally dislike, someone else wandering through here might very well hate everything they ever made and well, wheres that get us?

It's just a 'best of' so you don't really need to hear it as an album to judge it.

I guess it probably does what it says on the tin; I was certainly happy to see '4 Elements' on there.
Haven't really enjoyed his latest couple of tracks though...

Regardless, as a lot of the tracks on there aren't from the current era, it's not really relevant here.

+1. I should have mentioned this in my second post.

Trance has been going downhill ever since politics took over (as in label politics). Ever since all the major DJs have started launching their own labels, politics (as in, what tracks they should heavily promote....errr; play because the fans want to hear them!) have really brought the number of high quality sets to a hault. And yes, made so many sets predictable.

Another trend is acts playing filling their sets with more and more of their own remixes, edits, etc. After awhile, their sets are so full of their own stuff it stops being dynamic.

are there any good artists left??

it's simple, the amount of catchy melodies you can pull from a musical scale is limited; all the best ideas got taken. coupled with the fact that alot of people's tastes have evolved away from catchy melodies, it's no wonder why most current trance sounds like it does.

and 'a state of trance' isn't the be all & end all of trance; it gives a rather narrow insight into the genre.. i suggest you search through online shops/download stores yourself in order dig out the good stuff
