I mailed Sean and asked him about his tracks (not about the kick im afraid), And he said he used alot of sidechain to keep the bass and kick isolated so he could rack the volume up loud plus adding a pumping movement.
I also read a Darren Tate interview and he made an interesting point on EQ'ing a kick drum

I think that the kicks that they use are made in like Soundforge or Wavelab, and the proccesed thru many diffrerent elements..
OR, they just use the wonderful Kickpack i got a hold of
Darren tate in the same interview said he lifted his kicks from records, and the vengeance ones definitely are too.

alot of producers do this. i no gleave dobbin (coast 2 coast) does. although it very hard to find a track nowadays with the kick playing solo in any part of the track.

they probably will. however i doubt they will recommend starting with a load of shitty kicks, 'layering' them together and processing the shit outta them.
you have to start with a decent source sound to begin with. if the original sound aint good then no ammount of magic compressing will turn it into a decent sound.

why do you put layering in quotes like its some crazy idea or something? have you ever tried it? it makes FAT kicks, a shitty kick can be good in a layer if it just has decent mids or highs. shitty kicks are the only kind worth layering.. if u have a good kick already it doesnt need anything layered

balls. i layer good kicks so my overall kick is high in quality.
I like how he pitch bends the wave twice, that will cause a shorter less boomy kick but still has good bass in it. Im gonna try that right now.

And then ad some eq to taste, some compresson if needed and should get a nice tight kick. If you are not satisfied, you can try to layer a low frequency kick at the bottom!
