before it was speculated but now it's official so it's newsworthy, imo. TFC could very well sell out the whole season.. I should work off the beer gut, get off this tranceaddict thingy, lace up the ol' boots and try and make this darn team

even if you do hate beckham, he is still going to help the league grow. Which is definatly a good thing I don't know why anyone would be oppossed to that. MLS may be shit but it's getting better. Everything has to start somewhere

Well at the time, United had a great team with world class strikers and arguably the strongest midfield in Europe. Beckham was always a player whose only strength was to provide a darn good cross and at the time, that was all we needed so maybe thats why Beckham rose to fame.

When you have the likes of Cantona, Scholes, Giggs, Yorke, Cole and later on Van Nistelrooy running around inside the opponents box, all you need to do is cross the ball in, sit back, have a cup of tea and then indulge in some celebrations.

The fact that he returned so strongly (culminating in the captaincy) to football after France 98 where his own country had burned and hung effigies of him all over England is another commendable feat. The Brits take their football seriously - no fucking around there.

You can't really blame Beckham for how sporadic his career was. He was just a good looking guy who was part of one of the greatest teams in football history who wanted to use his image to further his business interests. Nothing wrong with that.

Wow. A lot of pessimism here.

Yes, Beckham is overrated.

But as others have said, he is a high profile player and he will raise the profile of MLS as a whole. (Which I rate as about equivalent of English League One right now)

Yanks got what, pop. of 350 million and helluva a lot of kids are playing footy. (in canada too) Yank national team has some real good players.

Beckham's arrival to MLS will only make the league better as it motivates US players, and maybe attract other foreign players.

You didn't think Cruyff, Stoichkov, Beckenbauer or Pele sucked when they played for Yank league in their old age, did you?

Beckham is still young. (What, 31-32?) If he wants to, he can play in MLS for another 5 yrs.

And he still is one of the best freekick taker.

PS: Why do I detect a lot of snobbish 'MLS MUST stay suck' cynicism?

Becks is also a good passer as well, good at stretching the field.

He'll make an impact in the MLS because of his superior ability to cross and distribute the ball. Also, in a league not known for strong tackling, he will be able to dictate play in the centre of the field. Becks was never an out and out winger (lack of pace, and poor dribbling) but there is no doubt he is among the worlds best when it came to the dead ball and feeding in a cross to a target man.

Not sure who plays striker for Galaxy, but if it's a tall man with the ability to head, he will find his goal production boosted by the presence of Beckham and his hollywood style passes.
