Real Madrids biggest misstake has always been buying new players infront of their opponents. Most of the times they wouldn't give these players a chance to prove themselves fully out.
They keep on buying new players and keep the old ones as one of the biggest icons in Real Madrid history: Raul. He hasn't done anything good besides scoring goals every 10th game in La Liga and Champions League, This has been going on for a couple of seasons.
One of their biggest misstakes was to fire Vincent del Bosque, the reason they gave was hilarious: He only won the League (I believe it was). del Bosque was the only manager who didn't use Guti in the starting eleven, over and over again. He had his own players, they were great and he formed a pretty strong team which was hard to beat.
Things hasn't been good in Real Madrid ever since 2003 and it's quite obvious they're falling into crisis periods where they're always talking about how they need to clean out the squad and start over again. You can't start over without a good plan, and a good plan isn't starting over everytime you lose to a team in the Liga or Champions League.
Beckham on the other hand never should've joined Real Madrid if he wanted to achieve something in a athletic way. I even remember the game when people was speculating whether he would leave Manchester United for Real Madrid or not, and the two clubs met in Champions League. Ferguson didn't start with Beckham and then he came on and scored two goals, He was sick at that time even though he had started becoming gay.
Anyways, Let him hang around with Tom Cruise and his scientologic buddies, I couldn't care less
