It seemed pretty clear to me from the beginning that Arbiter was speaking about the viewpoint of the observers, not the "actors" in his analysis.

(just for clarification for others)

Arbiter hit the nail on the head. I had a discussion with my gf today about this. Its a bit like organized religion, it works for some, but has the occasional inaccuracy.

The people whom are married have no shortcomings of telling the unmarried what to do about their personal relationships, yet the calm and unmarried cannot get two words in edgewise on their personal experience and life story, even if the length of the unmarried vastly outweighs the 'married' and 'experienced' party.

Being together means simply that. If you need a priest, then fine.

Generally for me the most difficult people are the ones that assume making something official solves problems.

Oh, and the dumb ones|

Seriously, you have no idea what you're missing.

Being in that honeymooner, lovey dovey, mushy stage of a relationship is a really gratifying feeling. You might even say it's euphoric. As much as it may make you want to gag yourself, it really is a wonderful thing, and is refreshing given the new trend set of divorce, infidelity etc. in relationships.

Instead of seeing it as something disgusting, try and see it as encouraging, and positive. I personally try to be happy for the couple, and see it as a sign that, although there are a lot of miserable people out there, you may find some solace in a good relationship, even if for only a small amount of time.
