I don't agree that all their album artwork should be classified as poor. What's wrong with the design for PoD1, Reflections, or AvB's 76 (the coloured one)? I know Tiesto's are a bit minimal and this one:
... definatly creeps me out!

Muh? To me, The FSOL's artwork has always looked crap. Most of it looks like exactly what it is: painfully dated computer-generated bollocks. Seriously, the guy's head leering out of Dead Cities? Or the badly-inserted anemone on the front of Lifeforms?
However, I will say that the artwork for their singles/EPs was very good, because most of it didn't try and do a visual recapture of their hugely effective sonic collages. The head thing on the front of Papua New Guinea is awesome, there's that bacterial spore thing on the front of Cascade, and then there's the nice little man-inside-a-man on We Have Explosive.

The Dead Cities artwork as a whole is bloody genius. It reflects the mood of the album perfectly.

man those are some bad ones. I just picked up the new Shins "Wincing The Night Away" and as much as I love the record I can't dig the cover. Oh well. I've been listening to Mew's "And The Glass Handed Kites" alot lately and I keep falling in love with it every time I hear it. I just make sure not to look at the cover too much because it is just weeeeeird dude. check it out...

A new one!
And some still try and claim AvB isn't commercial!? This is the type of cover you find on something titled like Ultra Dance Hits 2006 or Ibiza Dance Heaven '05.
