I feel exactly the same way. I don't like the minimal that he plays...I wouldn't even classify it as minimal...but I love the deep prog that he usually drops.

Well actually I am Careys (the talent buyer for sonic) sister, I also work coat check for the club. Next time you are there you should by and say hey.

My comments are not a plug, just saying that the DJs were promoting their new Thursday night at Toibar. Nothing more, nothing less.

Who was that? Kenny Glasgow? Jonny White? Please. I respect the fact that you don't like minimal, but this comment is only testament to your ignorance.

Sorry Clyde and Daniella, I agree w/ Tara on this one. I fail to see the connection, Sonic on a Saturday is obviously a better party than Toi Bar on a Thursday. There are a number of dj's playing this city on a different day in a different venue, for a different price.

to be fair, you really have no idea what you're talking about...

Note that the set starts a bit slow and requires a bit of patience to get into it, but well worth the wait, IMO. Good stuff.

nice set i did enjoy it, however if it was the last act i definitely could see it being boring and tiring from 40 minutes on kinda just lost momentum there

Just so there are no misconstrued points here, let me just clarify that I really love SONIC and would do anything to promote it and bring more people to the club. I just want the crowds back at the club and the music to be happy progressive tribal stuff. There would be way more smiles than frowns turned upside down. I'll still spread the word that SONIC is an amazing club but I will only do so when the talent is more my style.

Is C&C or Stephan Grodin coming back to Sonic any time soon?

I mean really, it was ONE night of minimal. One fucking night. For the most part the lineup at Sonic HAS been tribal/progressive and house. lol C&C were just fucking here, Peter Bailey followed, and so did John Creamer. Your bitchin is totally unwarranted.

Um, yes. If Sonic plans on bringing Red Circle back, which I think they will and should, isn't it their best interest to help Red Circle gain more traction and fans by supporting them on other nights? The more fans they have, the more people will show up at Sonic the next time they play. Think about it.

Furthermore, the core Guv djs (M&S, Nathan Barato, Addy, Sydney Blu, Dekoze, Carlo Lio, etc.) with large followings play almost weekly at the Drink, Gallery, TIL, Footwork, Hotel, CZ, etc. Cross promotion is a solid business practice, my friend.

Finally, Clyde, Toi Bar is tiny. It is not one of Sonic's saturday night afterhours competitors.

First of all, let me clearly state that I am not an employee or promoter for Sonic...I just like the club and the DJs and crowds it can draw. And therefore, I'd like it to stay in business.

Sonic is an afterhours club...they do not make money from booze sales but ONLY from pop/water sales and door charge. Toi and others can subsidize the DJs with booze sales...you are down $21 plus tip just for 3 beers there, with a gross profit of almost $17 from the sale!

It is in Sonic's best interest to build PARTNERSHIPS with other clubs to co-promote their afterhours business. Sonic does not compete with these clubs anyway...their hours and nights are different...so are their business models.

To boost afterhours attendance on Friday/Saturday nights, Sonic should advertise/promote at College St. and King St. bars etc. in order to get those people who want to go out after the booze bars close to come to Sonic. As a matter of fact, Sonic should give these bars color coded wrist bands (coded for each bar, eg. Toi = green band) to hand out to their customers that would entitle people with wristbands to a $5-15 discount for cover at Sonic. That covers the cab fare to Sonic for the customer. The promoting bar (Toi etc) gets a little fee for each wrist band that gets used at the Sonic door.

For those of you who feel "cheated" that you paid $20 to see Red Circle at Sonic and would see them "free" on Thursday at Toi...well, you are just not doing adding up all the numbers. Look at how much you spend on drinks at a regular bar...the drinks are at 80% plus margin...all that money pays for the DJs etc. Its not really "free". And you are listening to the music in a room barely bigger than the Sonic main bathrooms and with a sound system 1/5th the quality of Sonic's. And, remember, its Thursday night...you are likely only having a few drinks and going home....not an "afterhours" experience, if ya know what I mean.

I think it's hilarious that most of the people defending this night at Sonic....were not even there to support it!

This WAS a very different night...not my cup of tea...but I was there SUPPORTING the club, paying my cover...

The music was REALLY hard to dance to...and as for attendance...good or bad, I would say there there less than 300...far fewer than the past few weeks.

One thing you must ALL keep in mind it that Sonic is a business, not a charity...the point being made in here, mostly by people who WERE at the club...is that there may not be enough of a following for this kind of Progressive music in this city at the moment.

Perhaps it is best played in smaller venues until it develops more of a following...and if that venue wantsd to "flyer" outside the club, like others do...great! I just found it very strange that Sonic was plastered with posters for another venue...if it were my club, it would have been plastered with MY posters for MY next weeks' event..not someone else's!

My guess is that if Sonic had Red Circle back in the next month, they would have an even smaller crowd.
