It's in my job description that I need to help customers and to make them feel "welcome, important and appreciated." Continuing to work at my job exemplifies an acceptance of that agreement.
As an employee, you have to help the customer. I've been bitched at, screamed at, and called an asshole and a c.unt by customers even after I've politely explained to them that the error was on the part of the employee who shelved or tagged the item wrong. In the end, I've had to call the cashier(s) and tell them that yes, the customer will be getting it at the reduced price even though it's wrong.
As much as it pisses me off, the customer is right. If you don't treat the customer with respect, you get the ax. That's retail for you.
Most customers, however, are polite. They're idiots and do stupid shit, yes, but more often than not if I correct them and explain the situation to them, they'll understand and accept it.
