Due to the subjective nature of how people perceive content as offensive or otherwise undesriable, there will always be some disagreement on what kind of restrictions are appropriate.
Although I am not personally offended by the type of materials in question, I do not see that they are conducive to quality debate of the issues at hand. Instead, they tend to provoke inflammatory, emotional reactions which often lead to more questionable content being posted as various "sides" attempt to revenge themselves upon the other by being intentionally provocative. In this respect, it is very similar to trolling.
My personal views tend towards the anarchistic, but I do feel there is merit in action against this type of material (in particular, the fact that it is being posted ad nauseum as of late). I do hope that the mods will carefully consider each individual action to ensure that the quality of discussion here is not adversely affected. But the job done here is generally quite good, and I have every confidence it will be handled satisfactorily. |

What is the point of posting a thread such as "US soldier gets pwned" or "US helicopter goes down" or "terrorist gets pwned?"
It contributes nothing to any discussion, and instigates anger and stupidity (which is exactly what the poster wants, so I guess there is a point, but it is to troll, not debate or discuss).
Even worse are the videos. It is bad enough to say these things, but then to post videos of it? What is the point other than to troll?
Even worse is the need to start a new thread about each incident. Surely any such inflammatory post can at least be posted in the proper thread, ie Iraq war thread, Palestinian conflict thread, etc. But no, the thread starter must ensure that the largest possible number of people are affected by the trolling. Heaven forbid someone doesn't go into the Iraqi War thread and see their instigative crap.
Pure BS.
