The only way to accurately model the earth, would be to have an exact copy of it.

What humans really need to look at is not global warming, but a sustainable way of living. We are wasteful by nature, and if you can increase our efficiency we will all be in a better place.

Things like driving smaller cars, using more efficient light bulbs, walking more, maybe even eating less, these are things we should be focusing on.

bobby and dima, both great posts.

one thing that u mentioned, that no one said, that i think should be taken VERY seriously and should be repeated is...

LOL @ the results of this thread and some of the responses in it.

Just goes to show you, if you repeat something loudly enough and often enough, people will believe it, and even make up their own facts and statistics to support it.

I think it's being overly generous to even call it a theory. Speculation and junk science might be better choices.

The Gulfstream Liberals wish to thank you all for your very important contribution to this important debate.

Thats the only fact I buy into.

I do not believe that this warming trend is entirely caused by us, and is not something that is happening naturally (or primarily bc of other non-human factors), a larger cycle in the earth's history.

Anyways.

THANK YOU. I had forgotten you and I held a similar opinion on the global warming theory, Aaron.

Refreshing to hear someone who thinks about the matter much as I do, especially someone as intelligent as you.

Thanks Jimmy

And I'll try to track down links to studies I've come across... though they are dated, 2003 and 2004 was when I was really looking into this stuff, at UW. (But so many statistic here are dated that I'm sure they're still very relevant and good reads nonetheless.)

The studies mirror a great many of the ideas and fact he presents. That holds a similar opinion to myself, I was so amazed to learn that. SHocked.

Its an issue I only really care about bc of how "convinced" the majority of the world is about it bc, as Digi said, if you repeat something often enough ppl will begin to just assume it must be true.

(No where am I saying we should keep living wastefully as we presently are... or that we shouldnt try to cut back emissions and all those other GREAT things to do to impact our environment less... I'm not opposed to that, infact I encourage it all, and am glad this issue makes ppl worry and think strongly on that and try to change these habits and lifestyles of ours.... but I simply dont think the "issue" (global warming) ppl are tooting to promote these changes actually exists as its presented to us.

The world is getting warmer (to an extent) w/o or without us. It sucks for us and changes the way things are and it changes the way the world is. Thats just the facts and we need to adapt. We didnt reap this weather change on ourselves though, thats just nature (IMO)... and nature doesnt operate to keep us happy or operate to make things easier for us as humans living on this world. Or to maintain things always as they were before.

sorry

but you're both very uneducated on the topic, to say something like that.

lol, it's mind boggling...I don't understand how people think they can debate the topic, when there is massive amounts of empirical evidence that's pretty much one sided.

The first one was an interesting read and he definitely brought up some interesting points. But just because Michael Crichton says so doesn't mean it's true.

Whatever. Debating this is pointless. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and none of us will live long enough to know who was right and who was wrong.

quote:
What is wrong with us that we ignore this human misery and focus on events a hundred years from now? What must we do to awaken our phenomenally rich, spoiled and self-centered society to the issues of the wider world? The global crisis is not 100 years from now—it is right now. We should be addressing it. But we are not. Instead, we cling to the reactionary and anti-human doctrines of outdated environmentalism and turn our backs to the cries of the dying and the starving and the diseased of our shared world.

I agree and disagree with this statement. While he's absolutely correct that the present misery that humans around the world are suffering from needs to be addressed, we'd be too narrow-minded to completely ignore the environment and our long-term effects on it in exchange for short-term solutions.

This debate wouldn't even be happening if we, as humans, were more responsible and efficient like EvilTree mentioned.

I agree with you. However, regardless of who's right of wrong, I still think it's quite obvious that we have to figure out some better ways of using our resources as Bobby had mentioned.
