Alright, how about a Nord Lead 2, or 3 ?

How good are those ?

I know they are good, but they dont have any effects on them, is that a big problem ?

No, they sound more powerfull than most VA's without using sfx.
And it is so easy these days to just add some yourself .
Just route your line in through VST's, or record and do it.

I personally really love the Nord Lead sound.

I have a Nord Lead 2...and its very harsh in terms of sound...its got some nice rip right through the mix type sound to it. With no fx to be honest it doesn't sound that damn good...but hey I dont really use onbard fx anyway....sometimes only in the sound design stage. I think it should be just a little cheaper because of no onboard fx..some of them can be really great.

I have heard the Nord Lead 3 is a champ for pads but I havn't tried it yet.

I would get a Virus over all.

ok that looks cool but tell me if I'm wrong? why would you set up a competition for a product that is mainly marketable to musicians/producers and have a video making competition? hmm does that make sense??

I haven't been to the site to see if its actually a video comp but it sure looks like it from that ad!

Alright, some more things i would like to know (yes im also gonna spend about 1000 USD on some Hardware stuff)

So i see the virus seems to be the most appropriate synth, how about the Supernova ?

and also, when thinking of basslines, whats most appropriate for that, when having Nord Lead, JP, Supernova or Virus in mind ?

im guessing the Nord Lead would be very good for bass and that the supernova would be the least good on that.

let me just say that any synth is good for basslines...it all comes down to programing and what kind of bassline you are after. To be put of by this synth is best for this or that. you can pretty much do a full track with just one synth. The only one I would say is most sifferent from teh rest would be the Nord Lead 2...the sound is just so different from any other VA you would here. If your looking to make trance I would invest in Virus or Supernova II. I've got a bunch of toys here and I still want a virus...but I think the B's and Classics are way to over priced right now. I'll probably wait another few years before I get a virus.

Ah right, i see. I was thinking of those Andy Moor type of bass sounds.. And i know he uses a hardware synth in achieving them.

But i see your point.

So its safe to say that, the Supernova, and the Virus would be the best buy for me. As i heard people saying that you cant make very maany types of sounds on the JP, and the Nord Lead doesnt have any effects, and might sound too sharp for proggy-trance type of songs.

Shit, i guess it all comes down to the programmer huh ?

Well Well you are going after the same sound as me...I love that andy more sound, with those chunky basslines...so freakin sweet. I really dont think the Nord Lead 2 would be the way to go. Its got a cool sound but I hardly use it.

Yes, it all comes down to how you use your equipment.

Actually that's not quite true. Ok, it's not a Virus in terms of modulation, polyphony and programmability. But it does have alot of neat features and offer some unique oscillators (the feedback osc is really cool).
I might buy one myself in the future if I ever feel the need for one.
Its sound is so unique.
