Congratulations! I know that feeling of waiting, waiting, waiting...turned down by the school you really wanted to go to and then, when you think you're fucked...you get that call or letter. Such a relief.

Did you apply for a TAship as well? I love hammering first and second years on their grammar.

The only difference I've noticed between an MA program and an undergrad is that you have to cut out the BS in your essays and seminars. Professors at the graduate level can see right through the crap that's so prevalent among undergrads, even in senior years.

Get ready for 500-1000 pages of reading per week, 40-50 page research essays and presenting your work at academic conferences! It's scary at first but it's more than doable. Good luck.

your program might not be like mine though. I'm in history and history, along with English, is notorious for very long reading lists and long ass papers.

Are you going to do to the Thesis stream or just courses? In the Tri-University system, they discourage MA students from doing a 100 page plus Thesis and instead push us towards the Major Research Paper, which is about 60 pages and counts for 25% of our degree.

I'm always curious how other universities and faculties arrange their requirements.

I've only briefly looked over the requirements. I just got them today. I'm going to look over them tomorrow and I'll let you know.

From what I saw there was the thesis or course option. Although I really fear writing a thesis, I think it will be a good experience, and though I'm in Sociology I will be able to write my thesis in the field of criminology, as we have a criminology department.

The other option is to go with the courses and you have to pick 1 of 5 specialities. Mine would be criminology. There are quite a few criminology courses now as the program grows, so that's an option I may take as well. I haven't thought about it yet.

Although U of T's reputation is dropping by the minute, their faculty of law is still top notch, right up there with McGill.

But I can understand your reasons for wanting to stay in familiar territory. Whatever the case, grats and good luck!

The reason I prefer Windsor to U of T re: law school is b/c of the program. U of T is very very competitive; every man for themselves. Whereas Windsor's law school is more community oriented. Everyone still has to do their own work obviously, but people rely on each other as support systems to help motivate each other. The other advantage is I can do the J.D./L.B. program and get an American law degree as well.

Not to mention, although not the top, the University of Windsor's law school is rated one of the best in Canada.
