THere are a few differences:
PROS
-Better Battery Life than 30GB. I think it was like 6 more hours or something like that. 24 vs. 18...?
-More storage. 80GB vs. 30GB
CONS
- Price Difference
- 80GB is bigger than 30GB (thikness). noticeable difference. Also a little bit heavier (but not a big deal).

I used to use pads but I found they were a little too "fluffy". Same thing with pillows, beds and piles of leaves.
