I had a roommate (who, coincidentally is now my next door neighbor) who used to go out on random nights (like Tuesdays and Wednesdays - days when the rest of us had class the next morning), and just get absolutely annihilated.
This kid was a hockey player, and if any of you know lifetime hockey players, they're a filthy, filthy breed of individual who tend to fuck loads of women in all sorts of unkempt and uncomfortable places (Like the back of a Volkswagen).
So this kid would go out and get piss wasted and return home around 1 in the morning when myself and one of my other roommates would usually be sitting in the living room smokin pot and watching TV. He'd come in, put a pizza in the oven, pack a bowl and sit down and tell us a story.
The story would inevitably come out after myself or my other roommate had said something ridiculous about anal or ass to mouth or something like that, when Nick (hockey guy) would chime in with a story about fucking some filthy 30+ (40+) soccer mom "puck slut" in the ass in the alley behind some dive bar in Texas - it was fucking great, they were always so graphic.
He'd inevitably finish his story about 2 minutes before his pizza was done, and would declare "Goodnight guys, I'm going to bed," leaving the pizza for us to eat.
It was about as entertaining a phenomenon as I've ever experienced. |
haha I went to a sports training academy for high school, and hockey was one of the sports there (until my senior year, when they kicked the program off campus, after all the problems with the band of numbskulls on the teams). The guy who I wound up rooming with for the last few years, since we got along so well, got moved into my room during my first year there, since he'd been with a hockey player who would just throw all his shit all over the room, all of which WREAKED, since he never washed anything. He also used to just walk around, watch tv, do homework--whatever--naked. Note: The office for our dorm's "RA" (not really, since they were all older, and did it as a job) was also in the same room.

lol.
really, it wasn't terrible...he was just really weird.
The only thing he did that really pissed me off was never tell me when something bothered him. For instance, I told him the first day that if my music was too loud, just PLEASE let me know. He did so about twice all first semester--both times when I came back quite drunk and was just blasting it at about 3 in the morning, and each time, as soon as he came to the door, I started apologizing profusely and turned it way down. Then, the first day after winter break, I turn on my music at a moderate volume, and he knocks on my door and tells me it's been too loud for the whole semester and it's been causing him migraines & what not, and he's on painkillers all the time, and it's making him sick. I wanted to punch him in the head.

hot damn. Well, first step is to stop living with guys way older or very different from yourself. Guys have FAR different concerns when it comes to living arrangements. All we really care about is: can we walk through it somehow, does it wreak (not just smell), is it loud at times that someone's doing it just to be an asshole, and does everything [that we actually use] work. Maybe that's just 'cuz I've been at boarding schools since I was 14, but I guess you just get used to a lot of stuff. That being said, all the roommates you mentioned fail at life. |
hah

"I think the scientific and the artistic spirit have something in common. The scientist wants not only to learn the facts, but to understand how they cohere, fit together and make a whole. He even uses criteria such as beauty and symmetry to help decide which theory he wants.
The scientist cannot capture the whole cosmos in thought. In his mind he makes a kind of microcosm, which we see as an analogue of the cosmos. In this way we try to get a feeling for the whole. The artist, I suppose, gets a feeling for the whole some other way.”
