People go out to have fun, enjoy themselves, and unless your in some lounge where really arty people go to who like things like modern art and poetry (I do) and just sit around and drink mixed drinks, then I don't see how minimal as a genre can really "rock a dance floor", as in make people jump up and have fun and dance. It's almost like dancing to ambient music....the music should reflect the experience, just as the experience should reflect the music. Not saying minimal totally sucks, but I just don't feel it's a genre that works on a dancefloor like trance, techno, house and breaks.

simplicity is no reason to bash music, i somewhat agree with you on ur statement, i, however, like all types of edm (except happy hardcore, hardstyle or euro or any other garbage alike) from main dance to dum and bass i like everything, i have no problem with minimal whatsoever and even enjoy it to extremes once in a while BUT to me at least, minimal will never be as deep or revigorating as a good trance or house tune. But you fail when you stated that minimal is way too simplistic to be good (soory if i missunderstood your point) because i see music that is way too complicated to be a lack of creativity. A simple and sweet track beats any complicated, alphabetisised mess of a tune any day. A good producer always knows that.

i hear what you're saying. there deff is a difference between danceable and enjoyable at home. and of course, every city and area has a particular style that will destroy the dancefloors. house still has most of the planet by the balls tho haha, i don't see that changing any time soon. and altho it might stay in pretty "localised" areas, i also don't see minimal going anywhere either

People go nuts to ANYTHING if you put it in the right context.

all ill say is minimal never appealed to me. i like my music rich and full of of sounds, and although alot of minimal tracks have great little sounds that have potential most of it feels empty to me. i realize thats the point, but it just doesnt do anything for me

Also, I encourage everybody to go attend a music event with genres of music you may not particularly be fond of. Often times it's been the case for me where I'm not too into a certain style of music, but once I've heard it spun out I make a total 180 on my decision. The same can be said about music I like at home and then hear out and go, "Meh" to.

For example, I used to not enjoy Minimal at all. I attended a fourm-room event back in November. One room was Psy, one was House, one was Breaks and Dubstep, and the other was Minimal. I ended up spending most of the night in the Minimal room and it hurt like hell to walk the next day because I hadn't danced so much in ages. And no, it wasn't your improperly-labeled Tech House, it was Berg Nixon and Geoff White, accompanied by three local DJs. Ever since then the only parties I've found myself dancing my ass off at have been those involving true Minimal.

My point is, don't bash something simply off of hearing it from your bedroom. Your bedroom is what Chillout/Downtempo are perfect for, not danceable club music. That type of stuff is meant for a large system with a large crowd. Go experience something live before you completely write it off.

Just because a track is labeled as 'minimal' on Beatport, doesn't make it 'minimal'. This is probably the biggest factor in mislabeling a genre for people. Sites like Beatport or Audiojelly and so on and so forth are just labeling tracks in any genre just to sell them. It's funny to see the same tracks on 2 different labels both with a different genre labeling.

My suggestion, stop worrying about what genre the track you are listening to falls under. If you like it, then what the hell else matters?

Some Minimal is good earphone music though, cant totally diss it, but those tracks are far and few between. I like some Gui Borrato, Trentemoller, Gabriel Ananda, Minilogue, Audiofly, Extrawelt, Paul Kalkbrenner, Ame, Loco Dice and Radioslave stuff though.
