I just remembered I dont have a Gold subscription any more, but I'll change that soon enough. Halo 3 BETA starts in 2 days, got my Crackdown ready, all I need is a new subscription.

Marketing. There's people out there that are convinced Halo (or even Halo 2) is the greatest game ever. Which is pretty funny if you ask me.

i liked the first halo a lot. the story was great i guess, but it was just another fps to me. 2 was kind of a disappointment becuase i didnt think they brought out that many new features (besides what? duel wielding and teh sword, wasn't that big of an improvement) halo 2 was more like halo 1.5. hopefully with 3 though it will be better. i myself don't like playing multiplayer as much as single player.

none taken. As stated many times over, the interest isn't due to the exceedingly amazing quality of the game, itself, but in the multiplayer--the success of which is due to popularity. Basically, it's popular because it's popular.

Resistance beats the utter shit out of Halo in most respects. The single player is actually FUN and 40 person multiplayer is just chaos.

hm
lotsa good posts in this thread, i'm impressed

as for the success for halo (2, never played halo 1), everyone's right, its the multiplayer. expanding on that a bit though, its not just the fact that its really fun, i believe its largely due to the new game subtypes created by players. playing with just the presets fucking sucks, but tremors is one of the most fun games i've played, swat is great, hell even just regular ctf has some random but incredibly strong appeal.
honestly, for multiplayer, not much comes close. counterstrike probably, but only because of the large resources of additional user-created maps and games (gun-game etc)

oh and about gears of war, thats one game i really don't see the hype about. great fucking graphics, well designed, etc. however, aside from taking cover, the game played just like an average fps, not much else. like seriously, it didn't seem alllll that much different from having a game where all the barriers are slightly higher than your head when you just crouch normally. rainbow six: vegas has the hide behind shit thing, but worked waaaay better. gears of war multiplayer seriously got old in about one day, and the single player really didn't have much replay value at all :/

Funny part is I never used to like Halo and I was to ignorant to actually buy it lol. I played the first one for pc and thought it sucked at the time I only liked realistic fps. Then I started to like UT and then finally Halo. Now I have been hooked ever sense. I like the simplistic clean look of it.

THANK YOU

Yes, the game looks fucking amazing. But I absolutely hate how it plays. Simple things like turning 30 degrees while trying to shoot someone is, for some odd reason, hard. And melee attacking is damn near impossible unless the person is standing still...maybe I just need more practice?

Oh and the computer AI in the single player is atrocious.

Hey man, I sold my copy as soon as I was done with the campaign. No replay value at all. Gorgeous game, maybe fun to go back to in a few years.... but fuck, not deep at all.

Did you ever play it online? Every time I played Live I got my ass handed to me over and over and over. For some reason I could never master the controls well enough to be of any use against just about anyone.

But god damn does it look good on a bigass HDTV. Probably the best looking video game ever thats been released so far perhaps.
