as for head exploding...The skull is a very strong bone and unless hit by a shot gun should not be to mutilated by a shot. But if the gun is held with the barrel tightly against the skull... the expanding gases leaving the barrell will pass into the wound and continue to expand.... lifting the scalp off the skull...and crushing the brain...if the bullet passes through the skull the expanding gases will follow...and blood and brain will pass from the exit wound...if there is no exit would, its is more like the expanding gases would cause the blood and brain matter to exit from the entry would than blow the damn skull up.
