I don't think theres any difference in how passionate a man or woman can be about anything.

Oh, yeah, well that may have a lot to do with generational differences arising - women seem more motivated now than ever - not to necessarily make money, but to do what they enjoy doing in life. The current state of things is always an amalgam of influences from the past and from numerous societal variables not limited to class, social standing, location, gender, politics, etc... I know this doesn't say a whole lot in itself, but in the west, people are very much motivated to seek pleasurable activities as professions. And since we are well past the dawn of feminism, females can feel empowered to do what they like if they so choose - but interestingly enough, males, too. Women aren't the only ones constricted by social duty at times.

Seems to me that the atomic family is all broken up in some parts of the world and people, regardless of sex and gender, are free to pursue their interests. So yeah, you're right - it can be a very universal set of values.

cool thread.

Just look at the kind of toys we give to children from an early age. Women get barbie dolls and ponies, the most superficial of things. They aren't encourage to think, just to assimilate an ideal. Boys are given video games and legos, both of which encourage them to think and be creative. Girls are given romance novels to read. Again - very superficial and unintelligent things. Boys are given science fiction and fantasy books, things that stimulate the imagination. How would the two turn out if you switched them around and gave the boy toys to the little girls? More creative and more imaginative women, that's what I think.

that's a good point, and certainly applies true when i compare my childhood activities to my adult creativity.

i'm very fortunate that as a child i spent a lot of time with Legos, "homework" books, educational computer/video games, piano lessons, art projects, band camp, origami, museums and hands-on science centers, etc... my mom was all about letting my brother and i experiment with our creative minds when we were kids, and it definitely had a huge impact on us.

sure, i had some girly toys too, but most of the time i was trying to figure out how to cut their hair or arrange their outfits, or destroying them with huge rocks that i could barely lift, just so that i could pretend they were in an accident and then id have to figure out what needed to be fixed.

now, i'm not some super-successful or insanely-wealthy creative type, but i'm doing what i love and it makes me happy. i work full-time as a graphic artist (i don't get paid for my Tiesto chops though, lol) and music and DJing is a hobby of mine. i guess if i had the drive and determination to go further with my skills/talents, i could make more money, but that's not so important to me right now. it's nice to be able to do what you love without having to work too hard at it.

???? i know i'm a pretty creative person and it seems that creativity seems to balance. i think men tend to be more creatve in numbers and structure and females more creative in literal things... to be general.

hahah plus 1 as usual

and ya i was always outside climbing trees and inventing weird contraptions for catching tadpoles and shit like that, or had my face burried in a calvin & hobbes book or glued to the tv playing sega. i was a major tomboy. once i made something out of that little green wirey basket that strawberries used to come in with a baggy, a stick and a rubberband. lol my mom was like, "woah, u made that?"

it totally worked too.

and i used to cut my barbies' hair too and get more involved w/ the clothes and outfits as well. lol

no wonder you and i get along so well, Jamie.

i was such a tomboy when i was younger that i REFUSED to wear anything that came in really girly colors. i only started liking the color pink a few years ago, and now it's one of my favorites because i feel like i missed out on so much cool pink stuff, lol.

oh and is the original question about whether or not females care about the fact that it's still pretty much a man's world?

if so, then no. it doesn't really bother me because i'm doing what i want to do and slowly getting a college degree and i'm confident i'll be successful in a very male dominated industry.

i have a strong feminine to me despite still being a ball busting tomboy and as long as i end up with a man who treats me nice, i don't mind doing laundry and blow jobs hahah

i'm content with my role in society and who i am as an individual, as opposed to who i am as a "woman".

if that makes any sense.
