I think it's funny, reading back through some people's reviews, that they can spend 4 straight paragraphs doing nothing but complaining, maybe 1 or 2 semi-positive comments the whole review, but then close with "but I still had a blast and am glad I went." Good to see that blind Tiesto worship and the "trancecracker" mentality is still going strong in people who claim to care about the "scene."

in a less active scene, the options are go out or stay at home--not go to event a or go to event b. They're comparing it to what they would have otherwise done that night.

it's still no reason to waste money on a shit event. I'd rather just go to sleep and save the $60 on tickets/drinks/parking, or watch a movie, or play video games, or hundreds of other things. Saying "well nothing else is happening tonight" is still terrible logic.

going out & spending a night socializing still has value. otherwise nightclubs wouldn't exist. after all, at the most basic level, superstar DJs serve no different a function than do crazy decorations or super-cheap drinks. they're all just ways to get more people to spend more money at a nightclub. Some people value different components of these nights more highly than others. Most people don't think of it as a concert that happens to be at a club.

I have no clue as to what letters are missing, but I'll figure it out eventually.

My initial thought was "Aoki!" Then I was disappointed when I realized I couldn't count underscores...or read good.

its all about having fun and enjoying yourself. if everyone had the same logic as you, every club would go outta business.

no, if everyone had the same logic as I do, clubs would put a lot more effort into actually being fun places to go, "DJ's" like Tiesto would slowly stop getting booked, real musical talent would get better recognition, etc. It's called "competition," it generally motivates people to generate better products and services.

Dont waste your time

"Club Nasa" is a joke...the entire scene in Clear Lake is Hip Hop, and Houston follows closely behind. There is NO market for trance in the area...zero...ZILCH...NADA.
I have been in this area for the past 12 years, I was / am an avid raver, and I was actually contracted (thru the production company who started with the club) to play at "Club Nasa"...I wouldn't waste the gasoline it takes to get there. I wont even go into the diatribe concerning the owner of the club being a complete and utter money grubbing idiot.
Trust me when I say this..."There is NO trance scene anywhere within 100 miles of Houston"...I have been relentless in my search...I have attended virtually every major event that Houston has had to offer (Tiesto, Armin, Oakenfold, G&D, and various others) and have been repeatedly disappointed both in the quality of talent and every single venue to date. Houston is interested in ONE thing and one thing only...$$$! Clubs rape you with the admission fee (Anyone check out the scar-pricing on Van Dyk?)...drinks? lets not even go there...and parking in downtown Houston is a nightmare...but by far the largest complaint (i hear this one after every show I attend) is that club pack 200% capacity crowds in for every big name...it's hard to breathe, let alone dance when you have less than one square foot to move. (M-bar and Rich's come to mind)
In short, mes ami...H-town is down with the ghetto-ass bullshit called rap...and nothing else.
I fucking hate the scene here now...and I punish myself repeatedly by attending every show by a big name that I used to enjoy.
I'm not a hater...I just can't think of anything positive about being in Houston and enjoying electronica at the same time.

Aeryn

i just want to say you are close to 100% right. i personally manage to have fun at every event i go to. i meet new people everytime i go out, i became good friends with a few and i have short conversations with others. and since clubbing here will never compare to clubbing abroad or on the american coasts, houston scene will have to do for now and i shall make the best of it while it lasts.

dj's performances here are less than stellar which is very unfortunate. i would like to see so many dj's who would far outperform any $30 cover charge on a wed. night with a first letter name starting with an A, P or a T. but i think houston promoters will be scratching their heads over that one. (not dissing the promoters here but i'm tired of seeing the usual suspects.)

cheers.
