before everyone sounds off on London..lets remember that its a suburb, located beside a major metropolis, which by very definition means it will be borrowing its lifeline from a stronger scene, nevermind the fact that it happens to be Toronto, one of the biggest hotbeds of electronic music on the continent!
add that to the fact its sandwhiched between Windsor/Detroit, its pretty spectaculvr they get Dj's @ all...
that being said, i have had the great fortune & blessing to have been welcomed & brought in to London to play virtually every venue they have had their in recent years, from Lush, The Blue Room, The Cherry Room, The Drink/Knack, i was honoured to close the Phoneix (great party!) The Barking Frog, even a residency @ The Shot/The Base (in 99)..although my sound @ the time...was....um...ok we will leave it at that..even the airport road warehouse parties, the jams that argen/rivlin would throw, the Green Tomato afterhours events (clvssics) the Sigma Chi afterhours (more classics)...London was indeed Poppin!!!! Not just some shitty pvrty that Mistress Barbera played, in fact she played many events in London, most were well attended & truly embodied what the scene should be...great people with like minded ideals, loving & protecting each other whilst losing themselves in cutting edge tuneage!!! period. and as for Chris Shepard, who spent a great deal of time playing in London early on, well, that guy has down more for the dance scene in Canada, then just about anyone, say what you want about Love Inc...(lol), Chris' early dedication & pioneering of soundtracks, techno trips & pirate radio sessions, introduced electronic beats to more people in this country then he was ever given credit for...his dozen or so gold records that hang on his wall (ghost written of course) are a testament to that!!!Derrick carter, Donald Glaude, DJ Dan, RItchie Hawtin & John aquaviva (now swen weber) were all dj's i saw on a thursday night for 5 bones!!! Felix the HouseCat, Max Graham & tonnes more!!!
one thing that has always remained constant is the vibe there...its not the room, its the people & music within it. i Still enjoy going there, I look forward to everytime...Sydney Blu, Jelo, Dekoze, addy, Nathan B...tonnes of our Toronto camp, still regulvrily enjoy stints out there....i love London & always will...
ill see you on the 15th London...good times...anyone out there, is welcome to party with me!!!
