There's always going to be something you've not heard in EDM. Whether because it's just old (New Beat, 90-93 hardcore/breakbeat, 80s Chicago house) or just because you haven't tried it (91-96 jungle, IDM, etc.)

Whenever I get bored with what I'm listening to, I just search for another genre to listen to and search out all the classics and goodies. There's always going to be the well-known classics, and that classics that only those who went to parties will know. When you get bored with that, just switch.

Then there's livesets...

There's so much stuff out there that I can't comprehend you getting bored of all EDM, which comprises of thousands of records in hundreds of sub-genres over almost 30 years.

There might be millions of different tracks but it's not like they each encorporate something unique and original. Save for a few rare exceptions everything is more or less based on the same musical frame.

The main reason I got into EDM in the first place was because I was tired of all the samey sounding pop-rock that plagued the airwaves, and this music provided me with fresh sounds I'd never heard before. But I've listened to so much of it in the past few years that no ammount of ingenuity or originality ever surprises me anymore - I feel like I've heard it all. Overall it's been a great learning experience. I discovered so many new sounds and musical concepts that thought me to listen to music with a fresh set of ears, but there's just nothing left for me to discover anymore.

Been through pretty much every sub-genre of it. Collected all sorts of it - out of my latest batch from beatport, only about 10% I ended up really liking, the rest was below my expectations and I got bored of in a matter of days (even though I chose them carefully). There's barely any EDM left on my mp3 player save for some old mid-90s prog house tracks, an old Funk D'Void set and some LSG tracks.

Lately I've been getting back into accoustic music (something I hadn't touched in ages), digging up stuff from the 70s mostly.

Has anyone else gone through this? Or just long periods of being bored of EDM?

Heresy!!!!

well... lke others have mentioned, you can take a break and then come back to it natally. sometimes it happens to me with music. i'll listen to a whole bunch or rock then slowly transit to crunk and make another transit back to trance or house. i make cycles sometimes.

What "frame" is that then?

Maybe you should check out the non-dance side of electronic music. I don't wanna say IDM, because that's a gay name. But listen to some earlier releases on Warp Records. Because that's what I've been doing lately. Plus I also started listening to a lot of indie rock stuff, especially post-punk (Joy Division, Life Without Buildings, etc) and post-rock (Talkdemonic, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, etc). I too have gotten tired of going to EDM events where douche bag frat boys just come for the "scene" or to pick up girls, make retarded dance moves as if they are dancing to Chingy, and don't care what dj is playing as long as it is "banging". Plus the sound systems are set up to get the most bass and kick out of music and draw out the small details of tracks' structures (part of the reason why I didn't enjoy Digweed set that I went to). The worst part is when a dj finishes his set and everyone starts yelling "one more track" and then they go crazy when he merely pushes a play button.

Fuck yeah! I've listened to his first two albums just recently. Sounds really good when listened to at the right moment.

When things seem to be too redundant go abstract

"Go plastic" is good too.... "Do you know squarepusher?" is pure carnage, "ultravisitor" is just...well...genrecide... Probably one of the most inspired and well produced albums I've ever heard, mixing IDM, Jazz, and Ambient; Live parts and produced...Just amazing
