I can remember Apocalypto not being on the cinema long, I heard this was due to they wanted to make a killing on the DVD sales..

I really enjoyed Equilibrium, I just found the whole Matrix series far to over the top for the sake of being over the top. I think the primary thing a film has to have is an interesting story and one which you can enjoy and follow. I don't think the sequels to Matrix had any kind of story,
I also thought Equilibriums fight scenes were better to.

Apocolypto made 50 mil box office with a 40 mil budget. Not great, but not bad either.

As for The Matrix, you have to separate the genius original from the very poorly done sequels that followed. The Matrix (original) is without a doubt superior in nearly every way to Equilibrium and I don't think there is an actor in Hollywood who could have been a better Neo than Keanu Reeves, so I think the Christian Bale rocks point (which I agree with) is moot.
