there is no greater 80s metal band than the big M im afraid. love em or hate em, judging them by their compatriots of the same era, they're still right up there.

you kids go back listening to your synth pop from the 80s

Grunge came out of the old hardcore scene after pop-punk died away by the early 80's, bands like Black Flag, Husker Du, Sonic Youth and Fugazi. If anything bands like Metallica owed more to the early hardcore punk scene than 70's metal bands prior to that like Black Sabbath and so on.

hehe

what on earth are you smoking? listen to any interview with maiden or metallica etc on who influenced their musical journeys, punk doesnt rate a mention

and grunge is merely pop metal without the wailing guitars.

i know you love to hate the big M girl but sadly they are an icon in the music business. must be a bitter pill for you to swallow, but that just makes it all the sweeter for me

the other obvious point is that punk is quite obviously homosexual and not to be trusted.

heh, more like a pariah these days hunting their fans down with lawsuits...
Your thrash metal owes a lot to hardcore punk coming from the west coast of the US, regardless of how much they want to admit it.

yes, well people pick on me for that too, that doesn't exactly make you unique around here.

pkc is right; Metallica is a modern musical icon. Their influence is exactly why most music produced today is both interesting and innovative and their dedication to the music industry and to their fans despite the temptation of lucrative commercialism over the decades is a true testament to the fact that they are some of the most talented songwriters and musicians of our time.
