Sounds like overkill to me, I would get burned out pretty quick studying that much. What were/are your study habits like?

Well, look at it as a full time job. I only wish all I had to do was study everyday. I'de gladly do it. Everyone who doesn't have to work a job or two or three during college is just damn lucky.

If I have a 6000 word research paper and I have 3 weeks to do it. I will first make an outline, then research according to my outline. Then with all my research in front of me, I write the paper according to the outline. Even if I have 5 papers due in the span of 6 weeks, I personally find it easier if I stick to the outline, research, write formula. But that's if you don't have tests and quizzes to study for. Luckily for me, my program lets me take one accelerated class at a time. No tests and quizzes, but with only 10 students in the class, you're expected to have read whatever material was assigned and be able to discuss it in class. You're damned if you didn't read the text. They like to cram 2-4 papers and a couple powerpoint presentations with each assignment either individual or in group.

I got an MS in Anatomy and am now in med school working towards the MD. Grad school taught me good study habits and med school is putting those to the test. Bottom line though, and as said before; treat school like a job, work (study) from 9-5 with a little on the weekends and a little more before big tests and you'll do just fine.

I'd also say that you should read and at least try to learn the material before it's lectured (as opposed to studying the material for the first time after you've gone to lecture). Yeah, you won't get everything, but it's so much more useful to go into a lecture and already have a good idea of what's going to be talked about instead of everything you hear being new. Also, make sure you schedule (yes, write it on a calendar if you have to) time for yourself away from school and studying. School and studies non-stop, with no form of stress release, exercise or "down time" is a rough way to go through school and in some instances (grad/professional school) can be dangerous.

Regardless, good luck with school.

im doing my masters in accounting right now. this semester i'm doing about 3-4 hours a day of studying. my program is comprised of mainly international students from asia (china, south korea, hong kong, taiwan, japan, india) and there's a huge difference between how much they study compared to me and the other four americans in the program. i would guess that the international students spend around 6-8 hours a day studying.
