I was on the way to work, listening to Howard Stern when all of the sudden he started talking about a plane hitting WTC in NY. I was sitting there thinking Howard was f*cking with the listeners as always, but then I realized it was like internetz - serious business! So, then I thought some goofball got drunk and flew one of those little cesna planes into WTC. I clearly recall thinking "Little Plane: 0, WTC: 1"... but then I got to work and ppl rolled out a TV from conf room and tried to get it to work without antenna. I had to scramble and make a make-shift antena out of network cable. It was just in time to see the second plane hit. sheer realization of the horror and of the tragedy, watching WTC collapse, thinking how many people's lives were lost!
The horror of watching the buildings go down resonated down my spine. I was on top of the WTC only few weeks before the collapse. I went on a dinner cruise boat ride around Manhattan on Friday before the attack and never realized that those pictures I took of WTC reflecting sunset would be the last time I'd see WTC twin towers.
I also remember the first time my mom, dad and I went on top of the WTC observation deck. I was 14 and to me - these buildings were the biggest things I've ever seen and in gloom and dirt of NYC in early 90's they were the only attractive sight in the city.
Another bizzare fact/co-incidence (no sh!t): I had a huge IKEA poster, framed behind glass of the picture of brooklyn bridge and WTC twins. Few days before Sep 11, the picture fell off from the wall and broken glass scraped the poster across the twin towers. After Sep 11, it was very eerie - like a scene in the movie "Omen", where priest sees his picture with what looks like a line across his body and later gets killed by a rod that goes through his body like the line in the picture. It was very spooky.
My heart and thoughts go out to families, friends, and loved ones of the victims of 9/11.
