“I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of Saturday [3rd November]. My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in the horrific act that took place at this gig. I am informed that it was gang related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun. I find it such a sad moment in electronic music as this was probably one of the best set up shows I had played in South America – a sign of real progress…yet utterly hijacked by this mindless act. Again, my heart goes out to those that have died or been injured. This is NOT what the dance scene is about and is a million miles away from what I want to do, or promote.”

just wait until Chavez start using this incident to blame the music for the problems happening in Venezuela right now.
I hate to say it but with the amount of 'stuff' in our scene I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier. I'm not talking about the everyday joe and jane here but the other seedy subculture that is also, unfortunately, a part of it.

"Four people were killed and at least nine injured when a gunman opened fire in a crowded show in Caracas, Venezuela.
Footage of the aftermath surfaced on youtube only hours after the shooting. Apparently the video violates youtube's terms of service, so it's been moved to here:
Sorry for those of you who have been trying to see the video for the past few hours.
[q url="http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/intl/34852/Gunman_opens_fire_at_Carl_Cox_gig_in_Venezuela"]Horrific footage of the aftermath to a shooting at a Carl Cox gig in Caracas has surfaced on the web today, with reports indicating that 4 people were murdered and 9 injured. There’s been no official news reports following the shooting, but forum messageboards around the world are abuzz after footage was posted on YouTube by the night’s VJ.
Cox was headlining the event, called Red Noise, at La Rinconada Terrace in Caracas, Venezuela. The VJ reports that Cox was only 10 minutes into his set when an unknown man opened fire, the gun making a noise that sounded to him “like firecrackers”. He reports seeing 3 bodies on the floor immediately following the shooting.[/q]
A statement from Carl Cox was on his website as of Monday morning:

I am still saying this shit is pretty terrible. Especially for those innocent people that got shot.
My point is I still would not worry about something like this happening @ a Massive in Canada, its a pretty peaceful country))

1 month to the day, Cox was throwing it down at Stereo.
I know Montreal isn't Venezuela, but still I can relate to the feeling of randomness (maybe?) about this whole thing.
I hope it turns out to be gang-related completely and that no innocent bystanders were caught up in this stupidity. But judging from the numbers, 4 dead, 9 injured, odds are some innocents were caught in the crossfire.

I was caught in an absolute sardine can at the Guv watching Cox the night before that Stereo gig.. no way that club would be prepared for that. Some TOTA fools seem to think otherwise
