Funny... I never anchored my musical tastes according to people I know or want to know. It was always an individualistic pursuit. Or maybe it's because I use music for my own benefit and not for a social seaport.
In short... I never had or will rave or party. Maybe that's why I'm always adaptive/rolling-with-punches is because I missed out on this 'amazing culture' and don't give a rat's-posterior. Who knows...
I can't relate to your story one bit... and I've listened to trance off/on since the early 00s in addition to plenty other genres that I take equal pleasure in. I take pride in my broad musical tastes.
People are assholes/apathetic/cynical because they chose to let the mental-weeds grow, chose the wrong friends, harbor false concepts and reject them with bitterness, etc... IMO...
...No, I'm not some dopy 30-year old... I was an ackward, odd-one-out teen in the late 90s/00s as well...
