And you think that way is the better way?

Based on your Arab background, your post is confusing me. For example, you would get irritated if a French-speaking Arab Canadian went to a Quebecois (whose family has been in Quebec for 100s of years) and called him an immigrant (because they took the land from Aboriginals)?

Very interesting piece of egalitarianism.

So, your logic, which I'm guessing is that the Royal Family should be stripped of all their lands and money because they do dick all and their fortunes come from 'exploiting' the people by their ancestors?

So, should anyone who inherit a fortune through ancestors who might have done something 'illegal' or 'immoral' by today's standards be shot too? People whose ancestors were slave owners, or pirates or owned sweatshops using kids, etc?

Considering essentially the Royal Family does shitload of public service (representing UK at various functions, goodwill ambassador/charity works, etc) and a lot them put in time in the military (Queen was a mechanic during WW2, Charles & Andrew retired as Captain in Royal Navy with Andrew seeing active duty during Falklands War as a chopper pilot, Prince Harry IIRC now a Lt in British Army), I think these folks have some value.

In fact, the tolerance that the Commonwealth political systems show the royal family is indicative of the tolerance we have embedded in all facets of our economic/political/legal/social systems

I meant that we have a system of tolerance. I guess I wasn't clear on whether I think that's good or bad, but I thought you'd assume (knowing me) that I would think it's good!

He's an idiot, but that isn't racism by any definition that I've ever heard of. Most psychological studies indicate that people are more likely to trust other people who are "like" them. It doesn't surprise anyone that many geeks prefer to mingle with other geeks, Poles prefer to mingle with other Poles, Jews prefer to mingle with other Jews, gays prefer to mingle with other gays, and strangely enough, criminals are more apt to trust other criminals than normal law-abiding citizens. Why is it so shocking, then, that a lot of Caucasians prefer to be around other Caucasians than around blacks, and vice versa?

Now, if said preference is so dominant that a person is incapable of ever forming a trustworthy relationship with someone "unlike" them, then that person is a bigot. Further to that, if the person in question rationalizes this on the premise that people of the same race (normally defined as skin colour) are superior to those who are different, and that anybody different is beneath them, then that person becomes a racist.

Racism is not slight discomfort at being surrounded by other races and cultures. That is pure evolutionary reptilian-brain survival instinct. If it were racism, then if you took a trip to Zaire and felt a little out of place, you'd be a racist. Which is of course nonsense; most people would feel out of place because it's difficult to communicate, and they're acutely aware of the fact that they look like an outsider. If I got this feeling in my own home town (which I generally don't - I guess I'm a little more accustomed to it than Mr. GQ, but I don't fault people who aren't), then I'd be a bit miffed as well.

THANK YOU, Aaron. the way the term "racist" gets thrown aroudn and abuse is ppl on here and often in the newspapers is atroicist.

It get used far to often to simily i think sensationalize shit and get more attention things than if they'd been presented w/o the "racist" framing.

I would roll my eyes yes.

Because I am an immigrant, I am supposed to side all the time with my own kind?

lol ok, just wanting to make sure. No, I don't think you should be biased in any way. However, if one of those older-gen Canadians comes along to your face and accuses you of taking away his jobs, (i.e. is on the offensive), then I think you could defend yourself by telling that person a) he has nothing to do with the country, because his ancestors are no longer running it, b) speak to his MP about restricting immigration because the majority of the country is cool with the way things are, and c) F*CK OFF!!!
