got in to guv jsut after 12ish thinking that johan would be on only to realize that MO was still warming up the crowd. to my suprise talla came on as i thought he would close out the night.
first thing i'll say is that the sound was just HORRIBLE! the bass was set so high it drowned out everything else. it was so nice hearing a crisp sound 2 weeks ago at PVD so i was hoping they would have it set properly tonight as well. that was one of things that really downed the party for me. when u can't enjoy the music, it just isn't the same.
talla had a good pace and his selection was quite good as well. although i think that when he was here for US12, he played a better set. the room was pretty full during his set, but not packed. the pushing and shoving still occured at different times (at some points it was really really distracting) but i found a good spot by the front left speaker which had ok sound and not too much traffic. too bad it was near the end of his set. The crowd interation was great. the hydrolic dj booth really plays a big role in the performance and it helped a lot in the enjoyment of the night. it's amazing to see a veteran like talla still dance it up and great to see him enjoy what he does. he was on for 2.5 hours (from 1am till 3.30) after which point he made it down to the floor level and chatted it up with many people about w/e. i asked him if he's a big fan of heroes (cuz of saying on the back of his shirt) and he loves all the good shows like prison break, csi, lost, etc. for anyone who's curious, his favorite character on heroes is hiro .
i gotta say, i love seeing johan gielen everytime he comes down to toronto. this is my 4th time seeing him and it definetly won't be my last. the guy brings so much energy to the stage it's just hard not to watch him and take it all in. his crowd interaction is like no other and can't be touched imo. getting up on stage, singing to the songs, and giving out cd's are just some of the things he did last night. he also played for 2.5 hours in which he had some ups and downs, but mostly it was good. i've become used to his long breakdowns and soak up the good tuneage this man plays. he had a good couple of tracks to keep the flow after talla's set but then really slowed it down in the middle. in the end however he brought it back up by throwing down some classics like saltwater and twisted. another veteran of the music, and just like talla, i love to see him enjoy the music as much as any other person out on the dancefloor.
sry for the long essay, but i haven't written a proper review in a long time. i loved seeing a lot more TA's than i thought there would be cuz of the roll call.
