I enjoyed reading this thread. It makes me realize just how not cold it is here. God forbid I should live in an area that requires you to have a Transformer house, I'd probably freeze to death by the first snow

plastic is the best - i even did it down here in shreveport. its easy to put up w/ even just one person, really.

do you have carpeting? hardwood floors? if you put rugs down, it keeps the floor warmer.

also, make sure your fans are aimed in the "down" position...if it's like normal places, that means you want the blades turning counterclockwise - that way it brings the heat from the ceiling down to the ground in the center.

Damn, this thread makes me realise just how 'seasonless' it is here.

For me 'winterizing' is keeping the windows closed during the days. Very very occasionally, we'll put the reverse cycle A/C on heat. Yeah, think we did that twice last winter...

it doesn't get too terribly cold here, i mean, below freezing for a few weeks, and thats about it...nothing like it was up in chicagoland...but still, the plastic stuff helps.

ps, i have gas for heat, and last year, my largest bill was $109. i have electric for everything else....and in the winter time, my electric bill is around $30.

in the summertime? gas bill = $15, electric = $115

fucking large appliances

Your energy costs are cheap over there though, in comparison.

We pay about AUD $350 a quarter for electricity, and about AUD $80 a month for gas. That doesn't change much, seasonally.

Electricity is a quarterly bill.

Edit: Fuck, so is gas. So my gas bill is only $80-ish a quarter. I thought that sounded a bit high before

Everything else is monthly though. Phone(s), internets etc.
