I'm not holding my breath. I had the "privilege" to sit in some American cars (i know a guy who imports us cars...just my luck why cant i know a guy who owns a Ferrari dealership) and you cant help but doubt the ability of the Americans to make a proper luxury car when your 01 Fiat Punto diesel has better quality plastic in the interior than, well the 300C comes to mind.
Us cars might work in the us but they will never work in Europe, the sooner someone realizes that and stops trying to make cars that will appeal to Europeans the more money they will save. In this segment Europe offers the 5 series, E class and CLS class, A6, Citroen C6 (most comfortable ride you can imagine) and the Alfa Romeo 166 (oh and i guess the Masserati Quatrroporte). Given that choice there is no reason why anyone should be thinkibng about buying american. |
Yeah, because Europeans have the greatest reliability and customer service. I'm not saying that American manufacturers are the be all end all for customer satisfaction, but every time I've been to the Mercedes or BMW dealerships it's been a crap shoot as to how I'll be treated. Cadillac has been better for me and the people I know who own them than the BMW and they are typically more reliable mile for mile.
If you're going to bring the E63 and CLS up as a reason not to buy the CTS-V, why would you overlook the IS-F, or if you want higher class, the LS460 or the LS600. You'll never have a better company backing their product. You'll be astounded at how nice the interior quality feels, something pictures cannot do, and the engineering behind it is a work of art. The BMW and Mercedes (I'm leaving out Audi because that's not even in the same league as it will spend more time in the dealership than it will on the road) are living off of their name instead relying on innovation and a must for high quality parts.
If you have access to the cars, when the first new CTS or CTS-V drops in to his dealership, give it a look. The CTS-V is an easy 600+HP with simple, non warranty voiding modifications. BMW can't claim that with their luxury saloons. The Mercedes can, but you're looking at dropping Tens of tousands more for the AMG version of the CLS or E class. Audi RS6 is the closest you'd get, it's an amazing car if you keep reliability out of the picture now but the price tag is still 140k. That's about 70,000 more than the Cadillac.
For the price and updated quality, there really is NO car out there in the same range that offers what this new CTS-V offers. That's what's so important about the release.
Ohh, and for 50k you won't even get a new M3. The 335i is the closest I'd go for BMW, but I know of a few 335i BMWs with less than 5,000 miles on them and they're already sitting in the shop waiting for repairs. I love the 335i and it's incredible use of the straight 6, but the cost to own is HORRIBLE (gas mileage, insurance, repairs, and maintenance).

I have a 325i, I don't pay for shit - thanks free maintenance! Hell I don't even pay for oil changes! I do pay premium for the gas and the car, but insurance was cheaper than my cheaper, gas mileage was better, and I got a better interest rate from BMW than any other bank could offer (paying 3.9% now, was paying 12.9% before!!!)
So BMW has been blowing my skirt up lately
