I have lived in a predominantly European area near Fremantle, Western Australia my whole life. The Croatians are generally pretty good, they all accept that they (or previous generations of their family) have come over for a better way of life. Almost every Croatian I know calls them self an Aussie 1st but still are proud of their heritage which is great. It's certain other groups of Immigrants that complain about everything that represents Australia that shits the hell out of me.
All through high school I got "You fuckin skip, tut tut tut. Bounce away Skippy!!! WTF??". They diss Cricket, diss Aussie Rules Football, diss surfers, diss our hot women because their women are forced to wear blankets in 44 degree days, diss our history, diss basically anything that has made Australia well.... Australia.
Government statistics released a few years back proves my point rather well. Lebanese have the highest rate of Australian citizenship in this country. Something like 97%. That must show something about their acceptance to our way of life. Most young Lebanese deny their Australian tag, regardless of being able to trace their Aussie origin to migrants that came here 150 years ago. Shit, my family came from France and England 150 years ago but I don't call myself British or French!! But have you ever heard the Lebanese COMPLAIN about Australia. The Cronulla riots were a buildup of years of frustration. I'm not even going to go in to what happened there, look it up if you don't know anything about it. And believe me it wasn't just the white Aussies fighting back, there were a large amount of other Ethnic or even Aboriginal fighting against the Lebanese...
No ones stopping you from going back to your war torn country.
