Scientology and me is one documentary, done by the BBC. A little biased though I must admit, but he did TRY to show both sides, but the "other" side wasn't exactly cooperating.
Look into the British comission that designates what and what is not considered a religion, a brit might know the actual name but I think it's the "Charity Commission"? or something of that nature.
Not to say all Brits are right all that time, but they decided and ruled that Scientology could not be considered a religion based on requirements within the "organization" stating that you need to donate lots of money to be allowed to stay and progress.
Also, I find it hard to put "faith" into a "religion" that attacks those who criticize it so aggressively.
Yes, the Catholic Church did the same hundreds of years ago, but that isn't a fair example or comparison as we are living NOW and not THEN (Fact ).
Personally I find most organized religion to be complete BS, I'm a huge nerd too that's read the Bible (both books) and the Qur'an. I'm super INTERESTED in religion but I find that following any one of them blindly is a bad strategy, people today don't base their every day decisions off only ONE opinion, so why base your entire belief system on ONE book? What kind of BS is that?
Most atheists consider the Bible to be a work of fiction, maybe it is, but the fact is, Scientology IS BASED ON A WORK OF SCIENCE FICTION, it's not even a disputed fact, L Ron Hubbard was a SCIENCE FICTION WRITER!!!
A belief system can stem from anything, which is ok I guess, but from what I've read and watched about Scientology, it's not a religion that likes being questioned by members or non-members, and the way they handle it is abysmal in my opinion.
