My constitution would certainly not guarantee the unrestricted right to bear any weapon one might choose, which is the way you libertarian and NRA types seem to misinterpret our current Constitution.

I think the problem with guns is irresponsible people and an irresponsible industry. I don't want to right to protect myself and my family usurped because I will never trust anyone more than myself to protect my interests.

It's really fucking scary to think that people are so willing to concede their rights to weapons in light of police agencies designed to protect them. When push comes to shove I don't want to rely on that because it might be their job, but its MY family. The problem is not with gun ownernship, and anti-gun laws won't stop guns from finding their ways into the hands of criminals.

Anyway, I would revamp the right to vote. I think half the people in this country (USA) should not have the right to vote. I don't think voting should require a test or an acute knowledge of politics, but if you don't know the difference between a democrat and a republican, and if you are only voting for a candidate based upon their race or gender, frankly I think your vote is better off in the hands of someone who chooses to take an interest in politics and really what is their own best interests.

It's not the primary job of the police to protect people anyway. Mostly their job is to go in after a crime has been committed and bring the perps to justice. Classical political theorists like Locke never talked about ceding the right to defending yourself from an attack; they talked about ceding the right to retribution, which is why the police exist: to put an orderly and (ideally) impartial justice system in the place of the vigilantism that would otherwise operate.

I know a good deal of anti-gun people whose justification is that we have police, therefore we do not need guns. But what you said absolutely makes sense.

Any semi-auto weapon is legal, and that includes assault rifles and 50 caliber guns.
