debating moral principles is about as productive as slamming your head into a wall. over and over. because everyone is right in their own mind, like the whacked out bastard that started this thread. he obviously doesnt beleive, will never beleive, and he may end up seeing why OTHER people beleive, but that will not effect his own beleifs.

just look at any radical religion, (and what more is religion than a standard set of beleifs or ideas adhered to) same idea applies there. a lot of talk, but no gain. haha why do you think so many people died in the crusades? very cutthroat environment 'convincing' another of your own beleifs.

my thoughts- if you dont beleive in karma karma will strike you down
and if you do beleive in karma it will fail you
owned bitch

the title of this thread sums you up perfectly.

What I cannot believe is that so few actually understand the idea of Karma. To anyone who thinks that Karma is some cosmic force that determines what will happen to you in the future based on what you do today... you're mistaken. The Hindu concept of Karma is that the TOTALITY of your actions throughout your ENTIRE life comes to a sum of Dharma (harmony with the universe). If your actions through out your life are overwhelmingly contrary to Dharma then you move away from it, if in keeping then you move toward it. The closer you are to reaching this state of harmony at the end of your life determines how you are reincarnated in your next life (gender, cast, class, etc). The key here is this all happens at the END of you life, it is not an instant reward/punishment system.... this instant karma idea is nothing but a misread of the concept or an attempt by persons of non-vedic traditions to make this concept fit with their beliefs.

I suppose what I'm saying is that the type of "karma" being described in this thread is pure and utter revisionist bullshit professed by people who are seeking some sort of cosmic justice, probably in an attempt to confort themselves when they are slighted but unable to enforce justice directly. The Hindu idea of karma, on the otherhand, I will not discount as being invalid; however, I do not believe it to be true.

Fair enough, I will admit to have little knowledge of hinduism, yet if the concept is as you say, then it sounds likewise as bullshit to me.

Whatever the case what you believe will determine the outcomes that you have in your own life, karma or no karma.

The last time I believed I could fly, I didn't achieve the expected results

oh yeah, it's got to be achievable too. NOt to mention you've actually got to take actions to make it happen, not just sit there dreaming up ludicrous ideas.

Like people who want want to be rich and famous but do jack shit to get there. Then they blame the world for them not achieving their goals

As much as I think I appreciate your sentiment, I wholly disagree. Beliefs are often the counter to outcome and the cause of disappointment. Not that I am saying that one should not hold beliefs, it's just that understanding the beliefs of yourself and as many people as possible is far more rewarding than just sitting in your corner with your backwards expectations.

Vee are nihilishts, Lebowski...vee believe in nah-zhingg!

I see where you're coming from but think of this...

If you don't believe that it's possible for you to get that girl, car, job, money, etc... and take no action to get what you want... what are the chances of you getting it?

There's also conscious versus unconscious belief. Social programming and other things affect our beliefs yes, but limiting beliefs can be changed. The problem that you're highlighting is that people don't realise that they have limiting beliefs.
