however, you have to remember the buying cycle. with tv's its once every 6 years. so your average consumer will not need to buy a tv for the next 6 years theyll keep their average tv tube.
i dunno where im going with that but ill just say this, Dvd came out about 8-9 years ago and ill be damned if i have to switch my whole dvd collection to Blueray that quick. Whats thepoint of even if starting a blueray collection if its gonna be garbage in 5 years time. They may be able to get away with it this time. since this is our second time switching formats. but next time theyre gonna be in a heap of trouble because ppl are gonna refuse to make collections if that format is gonna be obsolete so quick. and they will lose a shit load in dvd/blueray/whateverthefuckdisc, sales.
ppl are dumb but theyre not that dumb
i do agree with you. people dont like to change formats every few years. there will be hesitation in adopting blu-ray for this reason. the next change is going to be an internet based distribution.

I have way too many DVD's(~400) to re-buy great titles, especially since I dont even have a TV that shows that detail. I may slowly buy new format but I havent got the items needed to get the full effect. Plus the extra cost in dvds is stupid to me.

the others will be able to be updated, as well. you'll just have to burn the update to a dvd, instead of downloading it directly.

you dont have to rebuy them... your old dvd's will still work on the blu-ray players.. just all future titles should be purchased in blu-ray..
