Someone explain this to me; I may be mistaken, but the reason people find this show appalling is due to one of two reasons (or both):

1. It brings light to fact that some people are dishonest, selfish, or susceptible to vice, regardless of whether the contestants were 'real' or just actors.
2. The appalling feature is its mode of delivery - pushing the human envelope to see if greed overshadows the contestant's care for their loved ones, and as the result hurting the friends and family in the audience.

In any case, I agree with above posters who said that TV, by its 'in practice' definition, is entertainment. Therefore, viewers should develop an information-filter for the content they choose to view, be it news, reality shows, or movies. Some content is more real than other, but it's still manipulated to a degree.

Live your life by what you experience in reality, and not through the carefully-crafted information that is fed to you in form of pseudoentertainment.

I watched the last few questions on youtube. The last question was 'Do you think you're a good person?'

She said yes. They said it was the wrong answer. WTF? The entire point of that scripted mess was to show people that even if you think you're a good person after doing those things, you're wrong. Wow, that's huge.... (farts)

You know what's stupid here? YOU SHOULD TELL THE TRUTH 100% OF THE TIME IN THIS GAME YET NO ONE DOES IT.

They'll find out either way. Plus, you get money. It makes no sense to lie in this game, but people do. That amazes me. This is also a reason as to why I think this show is staged.

rofl are you guys really trying to convince people that this is BS? whats the point ?
Some food for thought. If the show is staged then Fox would have to pay for all the actors right(including writers i would assume)? If its real then they dont have to pay anyone. That's the beauty of reality TV. you dont need to pay for actors or writers, you just take a few dollars and jingle it in front of peoples faces. Why pay money for bullshit when the truth costs you nothing.

i think the appalling feature is that the american public likes to watch others in misery. It's creepy how much we enjoy bad things happening to others.

i heard about this on the radio, I guess they are separated now and the guy is only pissed at the fact that she didn't win any money at all. He would have got half would have been cool if she got to the 500k, he gets half and gets rid of the whore.

haha that is horrible

i'm sure its half scripted though

they had to come up with something while all the writers were on strike.

and this show comes from the same network that brings you the most "conservative" (if you can even call it that) news.

also don't don't completely blame the US for having bad taste, the show was copied from a Columbian TV show. so not only is it bad taste, its also inability to be original

this just makes me even more happy that i don't own a TV

but whatever, i was entertained.

i think it's partly scripted in the same way as say jerry springer. according to the wiki (don't know if it's the truth), they interview the people beforehand with 50 questions. i'm sure they interview a bunch of people and only pick the ones that would have the most controversy with their friends/family get chosen.

This story was on the NY Post yesterday. The "other man" lives in New York and wishes that he would have never done the show.

He's getting harassed so much for being a home wrecker.

Her husband was so cute and nerdy... why??
