Also, I too don't particularly see anything wrong in placing value on material things (especially since that's really all I believe exists in the first place - but that's for another thread ), there's just good and bad kinds of materialism.

And it's of course some of the "bad kinds of materialism" that really fuck a lot of people off, especially when discussing the materialistic culture of the U.S.
