It's not being uppity. When you have cancer...those jokes kinda suck.
I beg to differ. I know for a fact that many sick/terminally ill people appreciate humor, even of this nature.

Good for you.
I can joke about it, but some things you just don't say.

I'm too lazy to look for the "inappropriate" comments but I would imagine if this was about a TAs mom, dad, uncle, sister, dog , etc.. everyone would be more compassionate. Lots of people get sick and die and that fuc king sucks. But when it happens to a celebrity the media makes a big deal about it. This is why people make "inappropriate" comments. Is some actor or singers life that you've never even met worth more than that guy down the street?

do you see me stressing the fact that he's celebrity? no, so please cut that out
if someone posted about their next door neighbor being diagnosed with the same disease, I assure you, I'd show as much compassion and sympathy
and I honestly don't think it's me being too sensitive, I think it's some of you being too insensitive
it would have been better if instead of posting self-proclaimed "funny" comments, you didn't post anything, and instead just moved along

I didn't say it was ok, I'm just trying to make sense of it.

Are you? Or do you just think I'm full of shit?
I'll just tell you that I'm a nursing student, and have worked with terminally ill/palliative people. Enough to know that many of them cope using humor.
You'd be surprised, really. Dying people aren't usually the ones that have a problem with it...it's everyone else around them.
