It's about the music, and it's also about the money.

For those who chose it as a career, it definitely is. At the end of the day it's how much you can bring home, put your kids through school and take care of family right. And for those who aren't married, saving for the married life and the future etc.

DJing = Time = Money

The only way DJing isn't about money is if it doesn't take time. I mean if I were to do things 'to give back to the people' my time would be better spent doing charity work than DJing for free right.

Wow Kevin! You have a lot of knowledge and good advice, so stick around the DJ Booth.

Ultimately it's just supply and demand.

Eventually the prices will go up again. I've seen too many DJs that spin at underground raves that are never going to make it. A lot of it is because the style of music they play isn't mainstream. That's also why they don't get paid much.

supply / demand dictates this

i'm not a producer, don't have much demand, and i get paid accordingly, about $60/hour @ the local bar.

you can probably make more money selling out and being a hip-hop dj at the local meat market, but that's all you'll ever be. or, you could be a jukebox wedding dj and bank, those guys get paid well, but then again, it depends on what is important to you.

Well mobile DJs make 1000 a night, if they have their own gear.

You could do that when you're not DJing at a club.

As to 60 an hour, it's not that bad if you are the only resident and get paid 300 for the night.

If you can get that kind of work 2 nights per week, that's 2400 cash. That's not so bad is it.
