I got the newer version of Dune for Christmas...the one with William Hurt. It's WAY better than David Lynch's shitty version.

That's most likely because David Lynch has only made one thing I would even begin to entertain the notion of possibly being considered "good" (Mulholland Drive), and even that's a stretch.

Meh. It's a nice conversation piece and certainly inspired loads of subsequent films, but it's hardly worthy of being considered the "best" at anything other than being influential.

Acknowledging somethings influence and gaging its overall quality are two entirely different things.

"Metropolis" is one of those movies I only see people who are trying very, very hard to sound smart/educated cite as one of the "best ever."
