He played a lot of minimal and techno. I don't recall hearing drums and I was there for 7 hours.

He posted a new chart on beatport today too.

Check it out, it's all minimal and techno.

I said to someone once that I didn't like Danny playing minimal and they bit my head off...

"DANNY DOES NOT PLAY MINIMAL!!!"

But I knew he did...

That's not what he means...

Rock has been dead for 20 years yet Nickelback are still selling millions of albums.

I know what he meant. A genre is only dead if you let it die. I'm not going to let it go because it's not trendy anymore. There are those who still continue to contribute to Tribal. A good local example of this is D-Unity.

he's not necessarily saying that you don't hear it out anymore, as so much as it's not really pushing the boundaries of dance music anymore.

Tu sais?

(ps. don't take it so personally Lars lol)

i have no doubts that he does know what he's talking about... just genuinely trying to understand why other people are hearing full on tribal.

but with the tribal topic it just seems like big boss almost tries to make people feel like idiots when they mention that they heard tribal... again, just an observation...

I wonder if he's on the same planet...

Exactly, a HANDFUL is not a lot.

And I bet you are going to say guys like DJ Vibe, Victor Calderone, Chus and Ceballos, Peter Bailey, Richie Santana, etc.

They don't really play that much tribal anymore.

Victor is all tech and minimal, and he does it well I might add. Richie and Peter are following his lead.

Chus and Ceballos are playing more minimal and tech, and maybe 10% tribal. Chus plays a lot of groovy and sexy vocals in his set and Pablo plays whatever he feels like.

I love what Vibe is playing now. He's so experimental and I am liking it. Vibe has been known to play all "the bombs" without programming properly, but listen to his Dancefloor radio sets, they are really experimental and trippy.

Dude, I was tribal fan #1 and I first HATED this move to techno and minimal, but now I have totally embraced it.

Check out the beatport charts of the artists I just mentioned. Look at the genres of the charts they posted. You will see all minimal and tech tracks.

Music is progressing...

When I texted you that he said something about drums and played 1 or maybe 2 songs while using his flashlight as a bongo drum...I figured he was going to get into a tribal portion of his set.

However, it was only 1 or 2 tracks...then he said he had to take a "much deserved piss" so he was going to let us sample his new album....held up his laptop showed up the CD cover and then played the first 5 or 6 songs off the first CD (that was when he went to the washroom and then came out onto the floor to dance and take pictures)

So I would agree there wasn't any tribal played other than a couple tracks

His new compilation, Futurism, sounds really, really dark. It's supposed to come out next month.

But is that what he's really saying??

That's not what I have been hearing... dating back to Tribalicious @ Stereo..

Tribal INFLUENCED tracks and parties are still around...
Tech-tribal is a sub-classification... whether or not it's pure, it's still has a tribal sound.

Big Boss... are you telling me you don't hear tracks with bongos and percussion anymore?
And can you really tell me Tribalicious wasn't a tribal party?

Let's agree that PURE tribal parties are dead... but the sound still lingers
